::Oooooohhhhhh! Mr. Sneezy, how my Hawke dus miss him. The story of how Mr. Sneezy escaped Ostargar is an epic tail full of tragedy and ickle hamsetr tears. That I shall not tell here for fear of upsetting the young ones and makeing them spill there milkshake. Just know that it involves a migic pineapple stollen from Loghain, one of Duncans socks, and a shape shifting pig with a top had and a pipe known only as Barry. Has it ever been stated how Aveline and Hawke(s) escaped Ostagar? I'm not sure how they could've fought by Cailan's side and lived long enough to see the lit beacon and know no one was coming to flee. Were they part of Loghains squad and fled from them? I know Elric fled and survived but I assumed he did so very early during the battle. Comments? Answers? Don't say a wizard did it because she was busy saving your Warden. King Mattitude24 (talk)

To what I have seen or heard, no we do not know "how" they got away. I like to think that they got away in the same manner as Wynne or Ser Landry. Though we do not find out how. Tommyspa (talk) 03:23, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Note: Carver (and possibly Hawke) was under Varel's command IIRC, and Varel survived as well. Tommyspa (talk) 03:29, August 10, 2011 (UTC)
It is a stretch to suggest that these two characters are one and the same. Especially Howe did not send his men to Ostagar. Balitant (talk) 03:54, August 10, 2011 (UTC)
It would be a remarkable coincidence in that case. Tommyspa (talk) 04:14, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Varel was at the Vigil for all of Origins, either resisting Howe or waiting for execution. However others can have that name. Anyway we know people survived the battle, the Drakspawn dragged most underground but if you recall from Lothering people suspect you of being survivors from the battle, since others have passed through such as Ash warriros. The losing side doesn't ususaly get killed to a man. (175.39.8.152 (talk) 04:17, August 10, 2011 (UTC))

Coincidence it is then. As per the Codex. Tommyspa (talk) 04:30, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Even heavily outnumbered, it's easy to both get out, or even get lost and find yourself separated from others in the "fog of war". Even massacres in our own history on the scale of Cannae had thousands of survivors, despite tens of thousands being butchered while the entire army was surrounded. It happens all the time, both throughout history, and even now. There really isn't any need to explain it to be honest. The Grey Unknown (talk) 13:02, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

It seems like they just broke rank and scattered. Aveline and Hawke are both very intelligent people, they would have see what was coming and understood the war had just turned into a slaughter and fought their way out. And we know they're both very capable. They likely escaped with others who ended up dying along the way as well, as I'm sure they weren't the only runners. Quite a many stragglers who were wise, lucky and skilled enough appeared to have escaped from Ostagar. Xelestial (talk) 13:12, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Though, it would be nice to know some details. - BTW, does Wynne ever mention any details of her escape? --Ygrain (talk) 13:14, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

I'm not going to claim to be a Wynne expert, but I believe she said something to the effect of seeing Cailan's betrayal and escaping with the other mages. I mean, they're mages, I'm sure they wouldn't have a difficult time at all. It's been a while since I played though, so I could be wrong. Xelestial (talk) 13:18, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

It's certainly a good point to bring up though. I guess it's one of those parts that's left up to us to fill in the blanks. As in the end it's not really necessary to the overall main story. They got away, for us to play as Hawke, and have the sibling, Aveline and Wynne as companions, that's how it has to be. It'd be very interesting to find out though. Imagine a DLC where Hawke has a flash back and we see exactly what happened and what took place at the battle. They could show us Aveline going ape shit on some spawn, and it'd be before her and Hawke really meet, so they wouldn't take much notice of eachother. Was Wesley there? Other than the Templars accompanying the Circle mages I don't remember them having much presence. Oh, and Wynne going ape shit on spawn too, that'd be cool. I see it playing out like, they show a few clips of the battle starting, but from Hawke's point of view, showing the two sides meeting, show death already rife, show the beacon igniting, show Cailan being ogred, and Duncan fighting to the death even. Next thing, Hawke and Carver are back to back, defending against the never ending onslaught of spawn, when Carver says something about how it isn't going too well, Hawke agrees, and they plan to escape. Chances are, after Cailan was killed, maybe his army was demoralised and began to retreat, so Hawke/Carver did too. Unfortunately, only some got away. S13Kuro (talk) 00:11, August 11, 2011 (UTC)

It would love for some Escape From Ostagar DLC for DA:2. At the verey lest how they escapeed would make for some great fanfic. Like a lot of poeple have said it's not unusal for quite a number to survive a total wipeout like Ostagar. I wouldn't at all be surprised if the battle of Ostagar is a a continuous aspect to at least one companions back story in all main DA games. Andy the Black (talk) 06:43, August 11, 2011 (UTC)

Andy, I know it's a sore subject and I really shouldn't bring it up, but for fanservice...how did Mr. Sneezy escape Ostagar? Quirkynature (talk) 11:11, August 11, 2011 (UTC)
