I am a little concerned. I understand that Bioware is following their own canon in creating this cheap fanfic...I'm sorry...new artistic medium. However, what I am wondering/ worried about is whether this special Theirin blood singing dragon stuff will end up being plot points or at least have implications in DA3. They pulled in canon from The Calling for Awakening, and even though I had to rely on the wiki to find out who Utha and the Architect were, at least it added SOMETHING to my Warden's motivations and to the story of Dragon Age. However, The Silent Grove seems like it would add nothing at best, especially if I decided Anora would be a better ruler, or Isabela is rotting away in some Qunari labor camp. I already had a problem with story inconsistency between DA:O and DAII, I really don't want to have to bookmark a wiki article every time I hear about some random character from a book, movie or comic like Fiona, Utha, Genevieve, some more I am probably forgetting, etc.....

Well Isabela escapes the Qunari according to Varric when talking to Cassandra in the very next scene so theres no situation where she ends up in a Qunari labor camp so it doesn't conflict with your canon =D —Preceding unsigned comment added by XxDeonxX (talkcontribs)

The idea of some random person on the internet calling work by the lead writier of the franchise fanfiction makes me laugh pretty hard. OneDeadTemplar (talk) 00:30, May 12, 2012 (UTC)

That made me smile as well. I understand he's trying to say "I don't like this" by saying that, but that doesn't mean it isn't a silly thing to say. Anyway I did not need the wiki to understand what was happening in Awakening, if I wanted to know more sure, but that is not the same thing. The story of TSG may not happen, but its facts will remain so even if they are not known, or become known some other way. As to the more general principal of not wanting to have facts revealed in sources other than the games, too bad? That's just a reality of settings like Dragon Age. --Knight Templar (talk) 01:00, May 12, 2012 (UTC)

What disappoints me about DA's "expanded universe" is that it's not really expanding. If anything, it's railroading the plot in a specific direction. Theirin blood, Mage/Templar war, yadda yadda yadda.

Origins established a world rich with history, culture, and a plethora of stories to tell, especially if you took the time to examine the background lore. But instead of taking advantage of this, all the books and comics have mostly been dealing with a linear progression of time, largely concerning characters that we already know. I can understand this from a marketing perspective, because consumers love familiarity, but they're really selling themselves short.

Halo's EU spans all the time before, during, and after the games, examining characters and events on all sides of the conflict. One of my personal favorites is the short story "Dirt," which doesn't have any of the games's principle cast and for the most part, doesn't even involve the Covenant. The life story of a particular ODST proves to be compelling in its own right.

Why can't Dragon Age do this kind of thing? Surely Fergus Cousland's story is a bit more involved than, "I twisted my ankle and sat out the Blight." What about the story Varric 'can never tell', about how Bianca got her name? Brother Genitivi has written so many of the codex entries, I can only imagine what crazy Indiana Jones-like adventures he's been on in the past. These are all things that can be explored without having any impact whatsoever on player choice. Son Goharotto (talk) 01:04, May 12, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, Brother Genetivi is one of those wily old buggers you expect to hear wild stories from; 'cause he was young once and probably alot more hot-headed and adventurous. I'd like to see some of HIS stories :P EzzyD (talk) 01:23, May 12, 2012 (UTC)
Lol, I think Son Goharottto is right though, DA is a large universe with lots of lore, history, and mythology and plenty more characters than the ones they keep shoving down our throats, why keep tackling situations and events that may alter or affect players cannon choices and events rather than choosing to expand more on past events or different events from different characters from other areas around the world? That way we can learn more about the universe without having to get confused and enraged at what exactly kind of convoluted story they are trying to tell. Like you said why not cover the (hopefully) miraculous past adventures of Genetivi, or do more stories like the calling, or introduce us to new characters and new ways of life in Tevinter, Rivain, etc. Silent grove just struck me as unnecessary, I mean one of my wardens had Alistair was executed so most of the silent grove really would be irrelevant on that file.
