We're on volume 5 of the six-part Dragon Age: The Silent Grove, and it seems that it has so far solved... pretty much nothing. Do you think it'll actually add to the lore of the universe significantly? It's supposed to be a "an epic journey to uncover one of the greatest secrets in the history of Thedas while encountering a dangerous prison break and the mysterious and feared Witch of the Wilds", but so far, all I've seen is "the Witch of the Wilds". I'm not sure what the surprise is going to be, but I sincerely hope it's nothing along the lines of "SURPRISE! Maric's dead". Because that's a downer.

Here is what we know (SPOILERS AHEAD):

1. Maric was in Velabanchel, the Antivan prison.
2. Morrigan has a sister.
3. Isabela's husband's name was Luis.
4. Morrigan's sister had something to do with Maric's release from Velabanchel.

Any ideas? -Gabriellesig 20:58, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

I have no ideas, but I could say the story was short, not interesting and added more unanswered questions. I find it dumb that Al spent so much time and energy for nothing. He used to be a templar, he could force Yavana to answer by holy smite. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.10.81.149 (talk) 21:05, April 18, 2012

If you don't mind, I'd like to add some questions the comics pose as well:

  1. How does Yavana know Morrigan? She mentions her, implying they've met
  2. How exactly does the extinction of dragons lead to the extinction of mankind?
  3. What exactly happened to Maric?
  4. What was Yavana's task, and why did she need the king of Ferelden to complete it?
  5. Where the heck do those steps in the Silent Grove's columned chamber lead?!
  6. What does Yavana gain from placing the enchantment on Isabela and Varric? What does it do?
  7. Who was Claudio's patron? I really wish Isabela had held off on her revenge until he answered a few burning questions...
  8. So Morrigan does have sisters. The question is, how many? How old are they?

More questions, and a few answers. Hopefully the concluding issue will answer a few more, especially with Yavana's closing line from issue 5, "Never assume the truth is beyond your reach". Seems the witch will be dishing some dirt on Maric. Maybe Claudio's patron will be revealed too, though I'm unsure as to whether she'd know that. I'm starting to think Morrigan might have been wrong about Flemeth, at least in some part. If she really does do what Morrigan claimed, how come Yavana hasn't been bodysnatched since she'd be older than Morrigan? Or has Flemeth simply transferred "a piece, just a small piece" of herself into Yavana as she did with Marethari's amulet? Chantry symbol King Cousland | Talk   21:15, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

It hasn't occurred to anyone else that maybe the comic's only real purpose was to pose questions with the answers "saved for the future" to ensure we buy DA3? "You want to know what happens, huh? Well, you'll have to wait another year and cough up 80 dollars first!" Matt-256 (talk) 21:28, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

Althought I rather making Anora husband of Alistair, I suspect he hired Claudio to kindap Al, because in the comic canon he's a sole monarch.

I kinda thought Meric was still alive. Never declare them dead until you see the body, or what is left of it. GreyWolf84 (talk) 22:25, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

I've enjoyed it, it hasn't been terribly revealing but I think it has kind of answered a few questions. We now know the promise that Maric was forced to make to Flemeth, though we don't know why yet. And, um well . . . that's all I got for now, but I'm enjoying it nonetheless.Wsowen02 (talk) 22:38, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

While it poses more questions than it solves so far, I liked it. It was actually the first (and I think the last) comic series I've ever bought, I'm not a fan of these. I sincerely hope we'll get some answers in the last issue.
PS I always thought Morrigan was wrong and/or lying :) My canon Warden didn't kill Flemeth for this very reason. Asherinka (talk) 23:19, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

I have to say I am enjoying The Silent grove but it's really starting to piss me off. Nothing happens in any of the damned issues. We get a posed a question and when you think you're going to get an answer it's "To be continue...". Then you read the next issue and it's the same damn thing. Nothing happens, then something cool is about to happen and then "To be continued...". I am a fan of Gaider's work but his style of not answering questions and then posing even more questions is pissing me off. I'm dying to know if Maric is alive and just when we are about to find out it's the end of the issue. I swear that if nothing is solved in the last issue then I am never buying anything that Gaider makes again. It's just plain BS that he keeps leading us on and then doesn't reward us for following him. I'm sick of it....--Vincent Cousland (talk) 23:31, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

PS "I have plans for Isabela-- which will enthrall and no doubt infuriate her fans. Because I adore her." (c) you-know-who. Asherinka (talk) 23:41, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

I'm going to guess a heroic sacrifice of some kind Wsowen02 (talk) 01:02, April 19, 2012 (UTC)

"How exactly does the extinction of dragons lead to the extinction of mankind?" - wait... Is it just mankind? So... If we kill all the dragons, all the elves will live happily? I think I want a new quest in DA3. -Algol- (talk) 00:34, April 19, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, don't you touch the humans! :) Asherinka (talk) 00:38, April 19, 2012 (UTC)
Me, too! Want a new quest, that is - to build gazillions of dragon hatcheries all across Thedas and train them to eat elves and elves only so that at least one fantasy world is rid of them buggers. :E Dorquemada (talk) 07:37, April 19, 2012 (UTC)

I can't see them revealing anything major in a comic book. The audience for that has to be small, even amongst die hard DA fans. I mean this thing took a huge favorite from Origins in Alistair, and as far as I'm concerned by far the two best things in DA2 in Isabela and Varric, and even then I had to read the wiki before this just to figure out what this really was outside of the title I had seen mentioned. So releasing any major info seems unlikely. Catching up, I'd say you'll learn Maric's fate (he's an exterior character only, only mentioned a few times in the games) and maybe catch some whiff of a hint regarding Flemeth and/or Morrigan and maybe this sister person. Anyway. They'll keep teasing, cause that's exactly what this is meant to do, and save the important stuff for games because 95%, or more, of the people who follow DA are only playing the games. And a lot of us are lost enough as it is! Revealing more in a book, or comic, is really not a good idea...And Gaider better not screw up Isabela. What an ass!....(um...I mean Gaider)...she's the ONLY companion I loved in DA2 and now she's gonna get Zevrened or something. Or worse, Andersized. The Grey Unknown (talk) 01:57, April 19, 2012 (UTC)

But do you really think they'll explore any big secrets etc. in the next game? Because they didn't really do anything like that in DA2. Flemeth was in it for like ten minutes, and was just there to be a deus ex machina, and say cryptic things- we didn't really learn anything new about her. Also, what's up with Morrigan and OGB (I know, non-cannon)? And where are my Wardens that didn't go into the Eluvian with Morrigan? The closest thing we get to answers of any kind was Corypheus showing up in Legacy, but that only really hinted at answers to the origin of darkspawn and the Blight. Plus, what the hell was going on with the Primeval Thaig? Actually the novels give a lot of insight into the game world- Stolen Throne gives background into Loghain's character, The Calling gives details on the Wardens (or at least the Taint) and the Architect plus the probably-origin of Alistair, and Asunder has a pretty big thing about the Tranquil. Though I do agree that Silent Grove is getting really annoying with the teases. There's only one more issue right? At this point I'm going to be angry if Maric doesn't show up alive, but I also don't think there is enough room left for him to appear in any satisfying way.--Liam Sionnach (talk) 04:54, April 19, 2012 (UTC)

By what I can guess, they're still milking the franchise. Whatever semblance of an open-ended story it might have had when DAO began, is all gone. It is now a series of cheap thrills and its writers thrive by creating mysteries with no answers, and retconning prior canon. I don't see all these lose ends being tied up and I doubt that even a quarter of the questions they posed in DA2 and other media since Witch Hunt will be answered. They'll just keep making new stuff to sell, with even more juicy mysterious stories, throw in a few old and well loved characters so that fans will take interest and finally when they think that the franchise has reached the limit of it's potential, and it's story is a twisted jumble of hideousness they'll dump it with a half-assed ending that'll leave fans (the one's who remain fans till then) confused and angry.
I was actually going to get these, but after seeing what the story is all about, I changed my mind. They think they can throw in Flemeth, Alistair and mention Morrigan and fans will rush to get it. Well, no more.Diain (talk) 06:34, April 19, 2012 (UTC)
