Hi, Over the past couple of months we have been developing and testing a related videos module on some wikis like Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Halo. During these tests we have been tracking the number of video plays as well as collecting community feedback. We are now ready to expand the rollout to the rest of the site, and we are starting with wikis that there are the most videos for - which includes your wiki!

The videos we have are fully licensed from video partners we have developed relationships with. They include videos such as trailers, famous movie/TV clips, walkthroughs and behind the scenes interviews. We currently have video content from Screenplay and are working to create partnerships with other vendors, including Hulu, soon. You can see the video content we have by visiting the video wiki and either searching by keyword or checking out the various categories.

When the module is enabled, it will already be pre-populated with videos related to your topic. We will try to pick the best videos from the video wiki, but understand that the community’s ability to adjust the content is very important, so you will have access to both adding and removing videos within the module. This can include adding videos already on your wiki or adding new ones from the video wiki.

Our high-quality videos will compliment the fantastic articles and photos on your wiki. On 5 of the test wikis the videos in the modules have already had over 10,000 views. This is an exciting number and we hope as we make more videos available these numbers will increase. We are in the process of pre-populating the related videos module for your wiki, and expect the module to go live within the next couple of weeks, so please let me if you have any any questions or concerns. I think we had a video module back then, and I still don't see the necessity for it. I speak for myself, and I've never been a fan of videos unless they actually serve a purpose. I don't see how they would complement our articles. We don't allow most videos on mainspace articles.
Will this mean that videos will be automatically added on the video module, and then we will have to remove them? ··· D-day sig d·day! 18:00, May 30, 2012 (UTC)

I'd rather not have the videos. This wiki isn't a tutorial site, and I don't see the need for it. Accommodating for videos in formatting would be a hassle and would eat up bandwidth, not to mention the distraction from the main text. We have images. That should suffice. -Gabriellesig 18:02, May 30, 2012 (UTC)
Hello, Thanks for our quick response. The module is intended to be just in the right rail, and the videos will be in their own namespace. The community can add and remove any videos they would like. We just offered to prepopulate it for you - if you don't want us to do that, we can give it to you blank and you can add what you would like to see. We are working on making more content partnerships, and hope to soon have a lot more videos to offer. Please let me know your further questions and concerns. --Sarah (help forum | blog) 20:43, May 30, 2012 (UTC)
So if we don't want any videos at all (since we can control what goes there), can't we just disable it? We've rarely used videos on mainspace articles beside trailers, which are generally featured within the article itself. ··· D-day sig d·day! 18:22, May 31, 2012 (UTC)

Hi, So the complete rollout we are not entirely sure of, but we hope to have it across Wikia in the future. The module will just live in the rail, so it wont come into your content space at all. If you aren't comfortable with being in the first round of this rollout thats ok, but we hope you consider it for the future. Please let me know. Best, --Sarah (help forum | blog) 21:30, May 31, 2012 (UTC)

I would prefer that the wiki is not part of this, at least not the first round. ··· D-day sig d·day! 21:34, May 31, 2012 (UTC)
I think the users here would be more comfortable in observing how the module functions on other wikis first, before it's rolled out here. If we were to be excluded from the first round of rollouts it would give us time to form a consensus about the issue and how best to deal with it.
