Liked it as well. Did not love it. Solid but unspectacular I would say. Didn't bring me into the story as much this time either, for several reasons. And nothing just grabbed me and held on like before. Interesting, but not epic. The Grey Unknown (talk) 01:07, March 14, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I liked it. Inferior to DAO, but definitely not worth some of the ire people are calling of it. I think that, if it were somehow possible to separate it from the memory of DAO, it would seem better. Still, a very good game. HelterSkelter (talk) 01:11, March 14, 2011 (UTC)
I liked it but I'm questioning some of the decisions made by the developers ie. giving the specialisations for free witout any quest/dialog/item requirement or effect. I dislike the fact that there is no possible way to not choose sides in the final act. Firetiger (talk) 01:35, March 14, 2011 (UTC)
SPOILER*** I enjoyed the story but felt rushed didn't get enough time to invest in my companions but I did feel sad and anger when they took my sister as I played a warrior. Also what happened to my mother made me sad so I guess they accomplished on that aspect, the other characters like my love interest Isabella felt wasted and felt unaccomplished and I felt jipped sort of what happened to Morrigan in Origins. As a sequel to DA:O it didn't really compare, but as a stand alone game I liked it alright. I'd give it 8 out of 10 just because I think the story was pretty good and gameplay was kickass, but other than that not much appeal. Yes. It's not perfect, but neither was Origins. I think a lot of people went into DA2 ready to not like it because it wasn't Origins. I like it a lot and hopefully Bioware will be able to take the best parts of both and make a third game that blows both out of the water. --Karabekian (talk) 02:17, March 14, 2011 (UTC)
It may not be what everyone expected, but I really enjoyed DA2. Plain and simple. I appreciated that they were trying to tell a different kind of story, and it was rather refreshing compared to the typical "epic journey" story. Like others here, I prefer Origins. DAII is a solid game that is very enjoyable that improves on Origins in some areas. (I prefer the combat animations in DAII.) It almost feels like comparing the book to the movie: it is best to treat them as separate entities in a universe. If I compare DAII to other games I’ve played recently, it is much better. - There's a difference between adaptations and sequals. DA2 is not a tranditional sequa but there is still a 2 there. Laidlaw himself said that DA2 is in the shadow os of ORgins. I prefer the Stats system of Origins but the comabt system of DA2 (I'm waiting a while to get the feel of DA2 out of system before finishing up a different playthrough I want to use on Origins for DA2.)CrowInvictus (talk) 21:36, March 14, 2011 (UTC)
- That's true. I think a better way to explain what I meant is that if DA:O hadn't been made then DAII would get higher scores and better reviews; I think that a lot of people who liked it would love it. I enjoyed it and thought the new combat system was great, but i dident like it as much as Origins. It dident feel long enough, i felt the companions were a bit distent, and i honestly dident like the ending that much. Just my opinion. Blood Prince (talk) 22:30, March 14, 2011 (UTC)
I enjoyed it but like others have said, I missed being able to talk to my companions when I wanted to, had to wait till I was summoned to their houses... and the whole game seemed very rushed. I finished it in about 20 hours. I think it feels a bit like a filler, with the rushed story and terrible ending. Like there should be another one after :/ KeeKat (talk) 22:55, March 14, 2011 (UTC)
This game might look boring with recycled areas etc, but for me it was one of the most emotionally engaging games EVER. I found myself drawn to each and every sidequest available. It seems to me like they put so much more fire on giving those kinds of quests meaning and plot twists. And the main plot... don't even get me started. I can't even count all the times I went "WTF OMG WHAT DID JUST HAPPEN!?? :O". The whole family thing, awesome VA, changed combat... to me, this is the best game I've played in quite some time.

Enough with the complainers, I liked it. I was talking with a blasted hypocrite who kept changing his mind all day about why he liked it and din't like it. Finally he said a "consensus" of people disliked it. What consensus?! Then he said "people who had been with Bioware from the beginning" made up the majority. What kind of elitist group is this that he's talking about?! I loved it, and the only theory he said that I liked was the possible plot for DA3. Anyone else wanted more collectible lewt? i remember legion of the dead, duty, juggernaut set from Origins... Topsider's Honor etc... I kind of miss the scavenger hunt.
Sigh. So on the fence. Good plot. Great storytelling. Companions may be a bit one note (compared to Origins' two-note), but still good, one can't expect them to churn out a Mordin every year anyway. But oh my god that horrible combat for ADHD kids and no overhead camera to control that mess. Actually, if they left the old camera I wouldn't have minded everyone jumping and flailing like baboons on speed during combat, not would I've minded the second/third wave of mobs teleporting out on thin air right on top of the party. So - quite good game, even great if you appreciate the story well told and aren't annoyed by way too many cutscenes, but brace yourself for combat being ridiculously easy on normal and more frustrating than challenging on hard and above, though. I'm also not as tempted to replay it as I was with DA:O, where I started again as soon as first playthrough was over; here, I remember the one dungeon, the one cave and the one warehouse and think, "Eh. Lets postpone it." In short - good game that missed opportunity to be great - and it's frustrating when you see how easily this could be fixed...but wasn't. Yes. Going on 40 hours and still not finished. This seems to be a "darker" game than DAO, and after meeting Alistair in this game, I am wishing I had killed him or at least sent him packing. What a goob!
I'm about 5-6 hours into DA2. I do not like the game at this point and may not even finish it. Interaction among characters is constrained and feels artificial. The PC's ability to initiate dialog with companions is limited to special areas and times. Click on a companion while walking around and you get... nothing; absolutely nothing. Same with most NPCs -- nothing -- they're just 3D background art -- its like clicking on a wall or the floor. When dialog is delivered via the dialog wheel, it is incredibly slow. Nothing driving or drawing me to continue the game at this point except patience and hope that things will get better -- the plot, story, and characters are supposed to do that btw, but so far they haven't. As far as gameplay goes I enjoyed the increased pace (origins sorely needed a kick up the back side) but it was just too over the top, I would prefer something between 1 and 2 in that respect perhaps if instead of shuffling up to enemies or jumping at them like something from animie they could charge and collide with them. I would prefer it if new enemies diffident just appear it kinda hampered the tactical feel to it not to mention that its just plain ridiculous; 1 enemy to another "it looks like he is going to kill john! we need to help out" " no way we will stand a much better chance if we wait until all our friends are dead, besides it took me ages to climb onto this roof I refuse to jump down until we are certain that he can kill us outright". I thought that the first act was the strongest in terms of how fleshed out the individual missions were (same as nearly every bioware game) however it felt unfocused, but in the second act it really picked up and did not let me go until the end of the game especially as while playing acts 2 and 3 I started to realise the necessity of act 1 and all the seemingly unlinked stories in it, with the exception of orzamar and the lands-meet I preferred the story of DA2 in nearly every way. Even though it was a little ham fisted it was really nice to see the bioware focus on these controversial themes as it made the game so much more interesting and dramaticly increased the quality of available choices and made me question my assumptions of the DA universe e.g. blood magic %100 percent bad (Merrill)
I loved it! Will I be playing it through multiple times? Of course! Were there things that I didn't like too? Of course! I actually really liked the new companion characters and how diverse their backgrounds were. Unlike many reviewers I felt that they were very deep, interesting, and well written. I just wish there was more interaction, so that instead of finding out quirks about them from notes left in your house, you actually got to talk with them as they visted. Hopefully the inevitable DLCs will provide more quality time with each of them. I also was a bit overwhelmed by the story. There were so many small quests early on that it was hard for me to know which ones mattered and which ones were just for gold-mining. If the Dragon Age series continues with this sort of storytelling path, maybe there could be some sort of completed quest "tree' instead of a list, that showed how completed quests were related. I have not ended the game and I am only a couple of hours in. However there are a lot of things that I don't like about the game. I was expecting a little more from it. The voiced PC is nice,but,I feel like the lack of dialogue for the NPC's is a bad change for DA2. I liked having new things to say to NPC's when you did something big or went to a different area. I felt like the relationships had more depth. I don't like the new ways of dealing with inventory. I was perfectly fine making my OWN potions and salves when I needed them. Now, I have to scrounge and spend money on every healing item I need. I feel like the enemies barley drop any loot, it's been really hard to make money and being hit once is a hassel especially if you're a mage. If I'm hit once, I'm dead cause I'm pretty much getting pummeled in a corner. Also, the armor organization is limited only to the PC? Are you kidding me? I think that's horrible. I really didn't have any complaints about the last DA except for the glitchs. I know I went on a rant ,but, I was really looking foward to this game for a long time and right now I am not happy with it.RhiannonCousland (talk) 17:32, March 15, 2011 (UTC)
For me Dragon Age 2 does not manage to live up to the charm of its predecessor but is still a very solid RPG with a great story, revamped combat and excellent characters. It is an excellent jumping on point for those who didn’t play the original game. Since I have only played the game once, and have not yet played a game with an imported save game from Origins I have yet to play and see my actions in Origins reflected in the sequel; I have a feeling that this game will grow on me.--JackfieldsA113 (talk) 17:37, March 15, 2011 (UTC)
I really like it! I loved the story, is more personal, and very interesting! The only problem are the bugs... Haven't beat the game yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm almost at the end, so my opnion may be very invalid until I finish the game. I liked it, but I didn't LOVE it. A lot of things were removed from Origins, like shapeshifting for mages, no pickpocket for rogues, no explorations from city to city. I remember reading the very first information about Dragon Age 2 and how we would be able to not only explore other cities, but other countries like Nevarra, Antiva, etc, etc... Just the thought made me go nuts! But, alas, at least until now, we only stay in Kirkwall, exploring some lame maps outside of the city. Talking about maps, that's what made me more disgusted. They re-use the same map thousands of times! I mean, not even Origins re-used the same map so many times! The first Mass Effect kinda used the same maps over and over again, but never on Mass Effect 2. Then what's up with Dragon Age 2 having the same caves, the same mansions and all that? The lack of exploration and being stuck in Kirkwall also made me get sick, gets pretty lame after some time. Can't critiquize the story now... Maybe later. The combat, as I was explaning on another forum, had me surprised. I love how it's more... Alive and more blood. I don't know why some peope claim it to be hack & slash. At first, it does seemed like hack & slash, but it's just the the battle is much more fast, more vivid, more ... Colorful? Another thing that had me worried are the lack of dialogue, especially between companions. Well, I'll just reveal later of my opnion after I beat the game. I enjoyed it but it had plenty of faults. Bugs, too short and I didn't like some of the changes with the way the game play worked and the recurring locations. But I played it straight through in a couple of days and had a lot of fun with it. I liked the story and characters fine but had plenty of small gripes about the changes. I loved it. Let's face the facts, it's much more realistic than the first game. The dialogue is fresh and lively, characterization is impressive, and the plot is much more realistic simply because it has no clear right or wrong decisions. You could argue whether siding with the mages or the templars was the right decision, because there WASN'T a right decision. All decisions in the game, more or less, were shades of gray. The one major thing I disliked about DA2 was no epilogue, I know that in every instance Hawk just disapears but i would have liked to find out what happened to the companions. I mean just a little something to show what they did over the last three years. It's this act that makes me believe that the game was unfinished and that the exmapnsion will be completing the story. - LOL the entire game IS an epilogue, in a sense. Events already happened, just Varric embellishing/retelling them. As a sequel, the game sucks primarily because of the weak plot. Everything else is great, especially combat. I don't know if I should be looking forward to any new DLCs. Somebody really dropped the ball on Sebastian. That subplot wasn't worth it.

I don't like how armours require more than one certain attribute.
Now that I finally finished the game, gotta re-play with a rogue! Seriously... I was so hoping we could contiue a kinda like +New Game with the same Hawke, same statistics, equipment, etc., like in Mass Effect. But noooo... We just get stuck inside our house walking in circles, hoping a miracle will save you. Well, the story was... Not what I was expecting. I've read so many times how Hawke would be THE MOST FREAKISH IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE WORLD, and all s/he did was kill some Qunari and stop a war between Mages and Templars? I was expecting something more... Interesting? But then again, this is just the beginning. I'm really hoping BioWare doesn't screw up Dragon Age 3 and show it to us what makes Hawke so speshul. I agree with a poster above that said the game seemed more realistic. Maybe that's the reason I prefer it then Origins but then again, I played Origins so many times with all classes and all races that everytime I look at the DVD I get a headache. Too... Many... DA2 has its good points and bad points. I definitely loved the fighting. I wasn't a big fan of the combat system in the previous version, because it was either, hit one button for attack and then wait till dead, for the easy enemies, or constantly switching players to make them use abilities. Not a horrible system, just not for me. This combat system makes me feel more a part of the battles. I really hope that when they patch the auto-attack in, they leave an option to turn it off. Another thing I loved was the pace of the game. DA:O felt somewhat longer than it should have been. DA2 got it right.
But then there's bad parts in the DA2 also. Conversations were a lot worse. Not because of the voice acting, that was great, but because the conversations didn't really branch out. It was usually just a line or two from my character and that was it. And don't get me started on talking to your companions. That was my favorite thing to do in Origins, and I wasn't too happy I couldn't talk to them whenever I wanted. I felt disconnected to my teammates, simply because of the lack of conversations. Reused maps started to bug me after about the 4th time of going into the same area. Felt like a lazy design choice. I was kind of iffy on whether I liked or hated the new armor system. I liked it because I didn't have to use money to outfit my team with the latest armor, but at the same time, I hated how you could miss an armor piece and have it be lost forever. Finally, the exploration was dumb. With just Kirkwall and a couple of places to travel outside of there, coupled with the few caves and homes, I felt like I had seen the entire game area in a few hours.
