Hey guys. I am sure most of you have noticed that many (and relatively new) wiki members reside in the separate part of Discussions. They have active, useful and meaningful conversations however their side is completely separate from ours which results in the absolute majority of them having 0 mainspace edits. Similarly most of our wiki's active editors do not post there.

We are a small community and being cut in two is doing us great disservice. The wikia is planning on removing the forums and replacing them with Discussions at some point in the future. So I think we should do it ourselves before it's being forced upon us and fully transition into the Discussions.

Uniting our community is vital for its sustainability and growth. Considering that the admin team is inactive it falls to this discussion to determine if we're going forward with this proposal or not. Viktoria Landers 18:17, December 20, 2017 (UTC)

  • It should be noted that there is not actually a retirement plan for this type of Forum (referred to as the “Wiki-style Forum” or “Old Forum”), only the new Forums (located at Special:Forum) are being retired. So you could conceivably keep this Forum indefinitely if you wanted.

That said, as someone who Moderates the Discussions here, I would welcome the activity normally held in this Forum being redirected to Discussions. It would make it much easier for me to interact, & the same is true for many other users who are more limited than I am (e.g. if you use the Community App to interact with the Wikia then you can only use Discussions, you literally cannot interact in any other way except by reading pages).

Therefore, this proposal has my support. If the community does not want it, then I’d be happy to offer plenty of alternatives that can help bridge the divide; whatever works for the most people.

  • I think fewest places is best, I'm agnostic to discussions versus fora. DaBarkspawn (talk) 17:38, December 22, 2017 (UTC)
If there are no objections, I will lock all the wiki forums in one weeks time. Friendship smallLoleil Talk 04:49, February 4, 2018 (UTC)
I would support switching over to the discussion format but I think we should make a more obvious link to the discussion page for newcomers.

I agree. You could include links in MediaWiki:Welcome-message-user & Dragon Age Wiki:Community Portal to direct users there, since there’s already a link in the header. You could also consider DiscussionsRailModule to add a feed of recent Discussions to the right rail, as there is on the main page. An example configuration can be seen here; overall, it is not hard to make Discussions visible if you take advantage of the tools available. It is already very visible on mobile devices, & links to recent Discussions can be seen in the Fan Feed already.

I second what Ursuul said and I'd also recommend starting a new discussion in there (right after the merge) informing folks of the merge, as I suspect that none of them is following or aware of this forum thread. Viktoria Landers 14:21, February 6, 2018 (UTC)

Hi all. I've updated our welcome messages to include a link, locked the forum landing pages and added a link to the discussions, as well as removing any reference to to forums from the main page and nav-menu. I will take a look at the scripts Ursuul has mentioned when I get a chance. Friendship smallLoleil Talk 21:01, February 10, 2018 (UTC)

Excellent. I have gone ahead & done what Viktoria Landers has asked & made a Discussions post alerting users there about the closure of the Forum. If anyone would like to pop in & say hello, have at it. I expect FANDOM Staff will lock the entire namespace soonish?
