I have played about 7 characters now, though only utterly completed once and that was my first run with my mage, working on the second time with my elven warrior Darrian. I was mainly interested in seeing the differences in the start stories and how they then linked in with the story as a whole when I played it with a different character. I deleted two of the characters, one because I just made him to test a theory/information for the wiki here on the mage origin page, and the second because I am a bit vain and really didnt like how my character ended up looking. I remade him. I think the only bit that got me teary was near the end (Spoiler) when I decided to sacrifice my first character instead of taking Morrigans offer and then got the cutscene at the end. It is a sign of a good bit of storytelling when cutscenes get you. The first time I played through I did it on normal, though having gone through it with a fine toothed comb the first time, talking to everyone ect then, I have ended up playing it on casual for most of the others. I did start on difficult with my warrior though to see how things went, but at 4am my tactics were really not going well, so I switched back because it was getting annoying with bosses dying time after time after time. I am very much looking forward to the Awakening expansion, because I have gone through the game so much now it is actually getting a little dull. lol especially since I don't have the toolset to play with. During my first playthrough, I had completed everything wexcept the Anvil of the Void, Landsmeet, and Final Onslaught. And then, just as I got to the entrance to the Anvil of the Void, I couldn't go there. Landsmeet, then the end. NOOOOOOO!!!

So I started over. Same human male noble, looks the same. Just wanted to play again. Live it again. And you know? The experience is richer after the first playthrough. It really is. I just stood there in the room with my family, looking at them, knowing that after I walked through that door, I'd never see my sister-in-law and nephew again. Then I teared up when I had to leave my mother and father. Wow. What a game, to evoke such strong emotions. Only the best films and novels do that for me. And now, a video game. We've reached a new level in gaming.

Have others had similar experiences? Played different origins stories? How many playthroughs? Have you also found the experience more satisfying after the first playthrough?

I find that I'm taking my time a lot more. I'm talking to everyone, looking in every nook and cranny, and enjoying the beautiful locations more. Taking my time in Ostagar even more, and being sure to take a good look at Wynne, so that memory will have more meaning. I'm also reading the novels--believe me, after getting to know the back stories of Maric and Loghain, meeting Cailan was much more evocative. And believe me, I'm much more conflicted about Loghain, now. Finally, I haven't yet had to switch to "Casual" or do multiple reloads, since I'm much more familar with the combat system. Oh--and I'm more certain of how I want each character to progress as I level them up.

Funny--I'm usually not a "multiple playthrough" gamer. But this game is so good, I felt compelled to. Anybody else have similar experiences?--RollaWarden 14:49, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
