Right, I am Dragon Age fan, and have played Origins and Awakening recently. I've been thinking about getting DA2, but after checking reviews and friends opinions. I'm not really sure. Apparently the story line is better, but the combat mechanics terrible and mobs can just spawn in mucking up battles. That and i don't like the idea of scrapping the full character generation, as i prefer making my character unique.

Bottom line, i just want the pros and cons of DA2. And since everyone on this wikia has presumbly played DA2. I'm asking for your opinions. And please no spoilers.. Phoenix96 Phoenix96 (talk) 18:24, February 24, 2012 (UTC)

I would certainly say it is worth getting. You will hear a lot of nonsense about it being a bad game but it really is good.--JD (talk) 18:35, February 24, 2012 (UTC)

Seconded. Asherinka (talk) 18:42, February 24, 2012 (UTC)

It all depends on you. I think DA2 is better than DAO in many ways, graphics, combat, Companion personalities, and the general story concept in particular. However, DA2 is not as strong as DAO so far as the ability to make your Hawke truly unique from the beginning, the small spread of Companions (particularly Warriors), and in the lack of Agency you have in the game. The game also recycles far too many locations, which I suspect was as much about cost-cutting as it was about laziness. But, really, the main culprit is the lack of customization for your Hawke (I don't care about the lack thereof for Companions... DAO had way too much of that for them... Really, you could have a blood mage Wynne, and that made no sense) and the lack of Agency you have throughout the game. There were far too few opportunities to really make the game your game aside from how your Companions turned out (which was nice), particularly with regards to the last few battles.

In the end, I love DA2 and I've played seven times; however, in terms of the things that make it a great Bioware game -- the agency and customization -- it missed the boat. --Serge W Desir Jr (talk) 18:49, February 24, 2012 (UTC)

It has its ups and downs, but overall it is a pretty good game. At the very least, it's worth having just so you can import over to DA3. --CommanderCousland (talk) 18:51, February 24, 2012 (UTC)

Considering that I can use $20 for lots of things, I kind of regret getting it. I played through it exactly once, then never went back to it.

I disagree with "storyline is better, combat's worse". It was the exact opposite for me. The story was merely "meh" level, but the combat definitely picked up in speed compared to DAO. If you like LIs, well, Hawke was definitely in for a not-happy relationship whichever way she went.

It was a good game, but I definitely didn't go crazy over it like I did with DAO. It was like Awakening expansion: I played it once, and that was it. I still blame rushed production for this very sad piece of storytelling.--GabrielleduVent (talk) 18:52, February 24, 2012 (UTC)

Whoever told you the story line was better was outright lying. I'm too tired to list all the stuff that is wrong with this game. It doesn't just fail as a sequel to DAO, it fails on many other levels as well and it fails as a game in general. You will be entertained by the game, but there's many games out there which are worthier of your time and money. Lemonaidz (talk) 19:07, February 24, 2012 (UTC)

I liked the story in DA2 more than in DAO, but I must warn you that it is nothing like DAO. If you are looking for "join a powerful order, gather allies and save the world from the Big Bad" plot, you will be disappointed. Asherinka (talk) 19:28, February 24, 2012 (UTC)

Depends on what you liked and disliked about DA:O. Say, if you thought DA:O's combat was slow, DA2's is much faster, but less tactical, also, no more tactical camera. Encounters, yes, mobs will spawn in waves on your squishies and there is no variety between them other than visual. Rogues power-up'ed, mages nerfed, warriors still boring. Plot. If you like hero's journey thing, well, DA2 ain't that. It's about everydude trying to get by in a city throughout fixed time period. Nice in theory, alas, flopped in practice. Also, the story completely falls apart in the last act. Played Mass Effect 2? DA2 swiped its dialogue wheel and as a consequence, you are on a railroad and your story-affecting choices range from very limited to nonexistent. Not an issue if you're not into replaying, though. Also, prepare to be seeing, like, the same 4 or so small districts, one mansion, one cave, one coast all the time. All. The. Time. However, if you like companions, banter, romances and melodrama, you are going to love it. All in all, for 20$ it's okayish. Dorquemada (talk) 19:39, February 24, 2012 (UTC)
