im only 20 pages in but its just so fucking dull, so far they have just used the most boring parts of the dragon age world and the characters are just so bland and boring. its even fucking dedicated to tumblr fans.... i wouldn't be surprised if there will be an "other-kin" later in the book. it even has a new writter, no idea why. the last guy was pretty good.

so someone tell me if its worth it or not :P

I thoroughly enjoyed it, so yes, I'd say it is in fact worth reading. Also, much of the Masked Empire's plot will provide background for Celene, Gaspard, (potentially Briala and more likely than not Michel and Ishmael [one of the Forbidden Ones]) and the Orlesian Civil War (sub)plots for DA:I.

On the characters, well, I really love (hating some of) them.

Here's the thing though, I love Orlais and find it fascinating. Most of the book is not set concerning the Game itself (the first fourth of the book is in Val Royeaux, the rest is in the Dales and... well, there's a portion set "beyond the looking glass" if you feel me), so you might like the adventure parts there...

But if you really hate Orlais and don't care about elves, honour, the throne, and whatnot, you probably won't like it. I find it a little tedious in comparison to Asunder, but it's pretty good over all. If you're really not digging it after a bit, just read the Wiki's summary, as you will want to know what happens over the course of the book before playing Inquisition, I believe. User:ChaosMorning

While the OP is quick to judge but I kind of get what they are saying. The books that have been released after the first two novels have been far from stellar. In fact most of the books have that distinct vibe to them that they were written just to cash in on the IP and not because there was any important story to tell. I doubt in the long run the events of the books will have any significance on the stories in the game. It'll just be more backstory about characters, chances are whom I won't even care about. Yeah, I'm sure the start of the Orlesian Civil War, the sundering of the Circle of Magi and the break of the Nevarran Accord, the release of one of the Forbidden ones, the discovery that Tranquility can be undone, and the reactivation of the entire Eluvian network under the control of a mentally questionable elf won't have any significance or affect on the plot. 67.61.238.87 (talk) 17:27, July 29, 2014 (UTC)

lol also i want to point out without the stolen throne Loghain would always be a straight up dick to me while after reading it i pity him and know he was a good man...the calling is really important first you find out more about the architect and his bad side(btw haven't heard from him in a while in the games huh?), also that the taint can be removed somehow, which is really important as to how Fiona is a circle mage now but once was a tainted Warden...also how she will probably mention duncan. Asunder to me is one of the most relevant ones yet since it brings up wynn's fate and where the spirit of hope is not which we will probably see more off. also who Rhys is and that Shale is still alive and well xp. and of course the reversibility of tranquility which shocked me. Oh yeah and Cole XD. And the masked empire actually turns everything upside down not having any rulers in val royeax at the moment, the activated eluvians... elves rising for power, ishamael and the thing that killed the elf.... im sorry these are not simple fillers besides it also shows you how the political and intrigue part of the game will play out. These are not like an arc of a series that brings nothing new to the table this actually changes everything... so yes i feel they are relevantFaye Cousland (talk) 21:05, July 29, 2014 (UTC)
