Hey, y’all, like many people, I saw the recent Dragon age 3: Inquisition trailer and am extremely excited about it, if you haven’t seen it, what the heck are you waiting for!? Anyway, I digress. I have a theory about the story, which will focus mainly around a part of the trailer where it looks like the Veil is being ripped. I invite you to read it from start to finish before making any conclusions. This is meant to be a friendly debate so any flamers will be completely ignored.
So, my theory is that Flemeth is tearing the Veil in order to try and resurrect the man that she loved way back from before she became whatever the heck she is now. In case, you don’t remember Morrigan tells the warden about this man in the first game. Now, the reason that I think this is because of several reasons. First, we know for a fact that Morrigan’s going to make an appearance and we know that where she goes, her mother’s not far behind. Second, the Veil separating the Fade and the world of the living itself is being torn, something I only know of two beings that could do something like that and one of ‘em’s the Maker. Flemeth, given her many, many years of experience and training could likely accomplish that, especially with a war involving mages weakening the Veil with their desperate blood magic. Also, with the Veil torn, the souls of the dead could, again hypothetically, be returned to the world of the living. Thirdly, the Grey Wardens are obviously being called into action and that wouldn’t happen unless it was something darkspawn-related, that in mind, the last time the living world and the Fade collided, the first darkspawn were created, so if the Veil is torn completely and living people somehow get into the Black City, imagine what’d happen then! In addition to the wardens moving out, it looks like they’re being opposed by the Seekers of the Chantry. Now, at the end of the second game, (SPOILERS!!!) we find out that a large number of Templars have abandoned their duty, so it isn’t a big stretch to think that the Seekers would replace them. As to why they’d go against the wardens, well, the Wardens is the only group that has so many mages outside of Chantry control, besides the rebels, not to mention that they allow blood magic and demon summoning, so they’d likely blame the Wardens, especially since they don’t believe that Flemeth exists, as demonstrated by Cassandra’s original disbelief of Varric’s story, or perhaps that they have pro-mage ties. After all, Leliana and probably Cassandra can only do so much by themselves. Finallly, there is the fact that in the trailer we see a big dragon that looks suspiciously like Flemeth’s dragon form looking like it’s leading the spirits/demons’ charge out of the Fade.
