As people have said before the spear is the Staff of Parthalan which which now instead of just standing there shooting magic bolts out of their staffs mages will use their staffs in melee combat and the "Plate" armor is actully the top mage gear in the game(for now) if you check the addons at the dragon age 2 site you can download the mage armor for your avatar and in the combat walkthrough it shows Hawke in all of the "best" armor for the classes(but you may have to be quick to see them all).

When I saw the trailer, I actually thought that the hands that come out of the fiery portal were Morrigan's Old God Child--if you did the Dark Ritual, then you could gain access to the OGB and Hawke could use it for its power. That would partially explain why the hands were draconic, if true. (Not even 20% sure of this theory though) FreeMarcher930 (talk) 18:46, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Forgive me if I restate anything already said, but yes that is the Staff of Parthalan. I would be careful about the info in those pop-ups, because that was not actually Bioware. Lastly, they were guessing, that is not Blood Magic he uses at the end, it is the new mage finishing kill for Ogres and other really big humanoid creaturesCroc484 (talk) 18:51, January 21, 2011 (UTC)Croc484 1:50PM, January 21, 2011

At the end of the dragon age 2 destiny trailer, Hawkes hand starts to burn, he experiences flash backes, his eyes turn red and the he summons two big burning hands to epicly (not rally a word) rip a qunari in half. That is some pretty wierd stuff in my taste, how do you guys think these "abilities" will come in to play in story and gameplay. --Achiles910 (talk) 15:45, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Actually those are blood mage abilities man. Check out the Destiny extended edition "pop-up" trailer. Its a verified version of the trailer that points out different things on the trailer itself. Arctistor23 (talk) 15:53, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

First of all, where can I watch this video because I haven't found (not doubting its existence just asking). And second, the hawke in the trailer uses a spear (which may actually be a staff), but more importantly, he uses plate armour that normally only a warrior would use. Those this mean that it is some kind of reaver power (they also originate from demons) or maybe some form of multi classing (unlikely).--Achiles910 (talk) 16:17, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

The pop-up version of the Destiny trailer was done by Gametrailers. They think it is a blood mage ability because that's what it looks like but they aren't Bioware so they can't be sure. Bastian964 16:51, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Multi-classing could be interesting - my initial impression was that he was going berserk (using the pain of the injury/memories etc) and that it somehow helped fuel his magical power. It sort of would make sense.. if you pissed off a mage you could expect to have a few particularly nasty spells thrown at you. I also liked the whole staff-sword, armoured mage concept. There is absolutely no reason why a mage has to be weak and sucky at melee combat. Almost makes me want to play a mage first (but i don't want Bethany to die so rogue it is). Haha I'm not gonna lie I didn't even look into it at all. I assumed that it was like the Blue Eye Glow from the Origins Trailers. I just thought it was there to look cool. The "spear" you're talking about is the Staff of Parthalan. It was already confirmed that it was a Mage staff. There will be a limited amount of "multi-classing" mages won't be so wimpy and they'll be able to be in the front lines. I assume the other classes will have a little more also. --Lord Enders (talk) 17:26, January 21, 2011 (UTC)
