I Was Wondering Can You Have A Dog As Companion In DA:2? Like You Can In DA:O.

You get a mabari with The Black Emporium DLC, but I don't know if it will be considered a full companion, or something like a Ranger Summon.Denevari (talk) 02:53, February 22, 2011 (UTC)

Denevari ninja'd me. --Madasamadthing (talk) 02:58, February 22, 2011 (UTC)

Well, during the live stream of gameplay, they summoned the mabari (like the ranger summons), so it'll work as an additional combatant. I think they said it won't be as strong as the mabari from Origins, but still, a little extra help doesn't hurt. XIII Lightning (talk) 03:08, February 22, 2011 (UTC)

In all fairness, Dog wasn't that great mid to late game. Too few talent points kinda left him trailing behind the other companions. --Madasamadthing (talk) 03:13, February 22, 2011 (UTC)

I agree. I almost started a forum about that once...does anyone else feel that the dog was really a weak companion? If I wanted a tank and my warden wasn't one, I used Alistair, Sten, and/or Shale. IMO, they were all better than dog, so once I had one or two of them, that was it. Dog was out. Anyone else feel the same way? Skahaggus7 (talk) 04:37, February 22, 2011 (UTC)

HE WAS A DOG! What exactly are you expecting from a dog, admittedly a highly trained wardog, your not going to get the same level of combat abilities from a character who's armour is limited to a leather collar and some war paint while his weapons are his own claws and teeth. It's called realism a dog cannot tank like a 6 ft tall quinari covered in metal armour swinging a 5 ft sword. I know that some of you out there don't like realism in your games but I'm glad that the dog is limited to realistic constraints. Firetiger (talk) 06:45, February 22, 2011 (UTC)

You're right. The dog was realistic, like the rest of the game. You know, the race of giants (with horns now!), warriors made out of stone and steel, trees coming to life, and people harnassing magical powers to wear around incredibly heavy armor.

The issue was either gameplay was severely hurt by the dog's lack of fighting ability, or role-playing was significantly limited. I really wanted to use the dog, especially with my human noble. But the dog always held me back and ended up dying in combat, so I wasn't able to use him. After about 2 hours, the dog was pointless; he took up space at camp and contributed nothing. I liked the dog a lot; I just couldn't use him, no matter how much I wanted to. Skahaggus7 (talk) 09:33, February 22, 2011 (UTC)
