It recently occurred to me that Dragon Age Keep might not be free of charge, or shipped with the game itself, as a lot of people seem to have assumed. I haven't seen anything to support this, but nor have I seen anything to suggest otherwise either. This is obviously speculation, so forgive me if I'm wrong or if any of the developers mentioned anything regarding this that I simply overlooked. It goes without saying, this would be a huge issue for the majority fans, myself included, especially if the "traditional" import isn't available either. --CrackFoxJunior 18:27, May 31, 2014 (UTC)

Considering there recent attempts to appease old fans and the fact theres meant to be a lot of big changes depending on previous choices, I think that if they charged for this then it'd be a huge slap in the face and people like me would refuse to buy it on principle. The only way it would cost money non-evilly is if it's a feature built into the game so you buy it with it. Although I think it'd be better as a separate feature. --80.43.243.241 (talk) 18:37, May 31, 2014 (UTC)TheRageMage

I wouldnt put it past them charging 10 to 15 bucks for it i would probly say it will com out in September thatgives everyone a hole month to set up their perfect play thru what would be really cool is if you could make multiple saves to just choose one and go off that storyStar Metal Knight (talk) 18:40, May 31, 2014 (UTC)

Star Metal Knight, next time, please avoid deleting another's post on a forum. I restored it the way I could, hope that'll suffice. Also to say something for the topic, I'm pretty superstitious about this, and now I can only hope I won't think too much about this. --Margerard is a Dragon Age Wiki Editor 18:51, May 31, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, just to reiterate Margerard's message. I understand you may have deleted it accidentally, but if not you should never edit other users' comments. Chantry symbol King Cousland | Talk   20:05, May 31, 2014 (UTC)

The Keep will be free of charge, but will not ship with the game. It is a browser-based application - any device which can access a browser can access the Keep. You make an account with the Keep, select your choices and then log in with the same account in-game to sync your decisions. A "traditional" import option has been stated as being highly unlikely, but the Keep avoids the bugs that the old method was marked by and also provides a platform for importing into future installments. Any idea when it will be released? Samahl (talk) 01:48, June 1, 2014 (UTC)
I believe all they have said yet is that it will be released before Inquisition is. --CountSilvershroud (talk) 03:03, June 1, 2014 (UTC)
It'll probably be released in September. They may announce the date at E3.Lazare326 10:39, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

I really hope they also figure out something for people who don't have access to internet on their consoles, though. Because I know unless I get unlimited or they figure something else out, I'll probably refrain from getting DA:I unless my internet situation gets better, because there is no way I can afford making a save (and I'm not going to play DA:I with the defaults). It would be cool if they also have the ability to have a disc you could pop in, do the check list yourself and whatnot, and then save it to your console and select that save when you put in the main game, though. 70.194.133.168 (talk) 16:21, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

I assume you are concerned with your bandwidth cap? From all we know right now all it is a website which saves your worldstate to the cloud, once in game you log into your Origin account and download the worldstate, it will most likely not be prohibitively large in size, you are not downloading the entire game, just loading a save game basically. If you are able to connect to this wiki then you should have no trouble accessing the Keep, nor should it be prohibitively expensive bandwidth wise. If you are that concerned then you will have to wait until we actually know more about the Keep Devmir (talk) 19:07, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

didnt someone say it was going to be released in august?—Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)

My concern is if it is something that requires constant connection to the internet to access. That is, when a new game is started, is the Keep information incorporated into that game as an import would, and from then on it's not necessary to access the Keep (unless another new game is started)? Or does it need to be accessed every time the game is loaded? The latter sounds really annoying, because that would basically mean the game would always have to be connected to the internet. Silver Warden (talk) 20:27, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

Fernando Melo, the director of online development at Bioware, confirmed in an interview with gamermd83 that once you initially start your game, you only have to go online once to import from the DA Keep, and you no longer need access to the keep. The link for the full interview, which is very informative, is here [1] its 30 mins long though. As for cost, I could swear someone at Bioware said it was free, though I can't say that for sure sadly because I don't remember where I heard it. Drake72 (talk) 21:35, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, it's most definitely free. Chantry symbol King Cousland | Talk   21:49, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

Drake72 is correct. It's even been mentioned that you could connect a USB to your computer and plug that into your console if you can't get an internet connection there. Jamie Jones54842 (talk) 21:36, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

I think the USB thing is untrue, actually. I've seen it floating around quite a lot but I've never found anything from BioWare to back it up. It'd be nice if they did enable that, however. Chantry symbol King Cousland | Talk   21:49, June 1, 2014 (UTC)
It is something that people have suggested but it is not anything Bioware has said they would do. I don't even think it would work given the closed nature of consoles (you cannot create what essentially amounts to a save file outside of the system's operating system and have it work). Devmir (talk) 22:37, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

i figured it would be done the same way they did Mass Effect Genesis but idd be a bit annoyed if i had to pay for it more than a once off payment (monthly fees etc are annoying)Blitzbear93 (talk) 11:13, June 2, 2014 (UTC)Blitzbear93

This wll be a very cool piece of technology, not very cheap but if this bumps DAI price I wouldn't be amazed.--Dave The Maniac (talk) 16:27, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

I feel one of the Fable games did something very similar with adding a character from a web based cloud service to an individual's game. It was neither prohibitively large in file size and free. In fact, offering something like the Keep for free could be an excellent marketing strategy, perhaps enticing new players to the world by letting them play around with the decision capabilities of the series before having to purchase the game. --Dbiznaz (talk) 03:08, June 5, 2014 (UTC)

I know King Cousland has stated already that the Keep will be free, but I can confirm that from Bioware. I tweeted Fernando Melo, and he confirmed to me that it "will definately be free". So you wont have to worry about paying for it like we had to with mass effect genesis. I personally can't wait for the Keep, and seeing how it affects DA:I Drake72 (talk) 18:33, June 5, 2014 (UTC)
