On the codex entry for the Astrariums, a few lines at the bottom about the Order of the Fiery Promise got me thinking...
"...Many of these relics were sought out by Andrastian cultists in the early Divine Age (the Order of Fiery Promise in particular) and destroyed. Why? Because they believed the astrariums held together the Veil, and that destroying them would destroy the Veil and thus the world."
What if these Astrariums were misremembered to be the veil-tweaking orb "artifacts" that Solas has you seek out? --MadCat221 (talk) 18:32, September 26, 2015 (UTC)
The Astariums simply unlock hidden rooms with treasure inside. How could that weaken the Veil? Plus, aren't they Tevinter artifacts? I mean that could be wrong, but they point out Tevinter constellations. Why would Solas care about the images of Old Gods or other (seemingly unrelated) symbols? - Tevinter is only the vulture that repurposed what was left of the elven civilization, as the game anviliciously drives home. Constellations included, those that represent Tevinter Old Gods can also be used to refer to the Evanuris, according to their Codex entries. (The Imperial Highway is pretty much the only thing they built themselves, as the elves used the Crossroads.) So any time you see a "Tevinter" artifact, safe money's on it having an elven origin. The initial question was not about the purpose of Astrariums) But it is an interesting point! It could definitely be that the Order thought Astrariums were the "strengthen the veil" tools, instead of the orbs Solas shows us. I'd say - good catch. --Zaznayka (talk) 04:04, September 28, 2015 (UTC)
