So, I think pretty much everyone missed this crucial piece of lore found right at the very beginning of Inquisition, in the Hinterlands.

Using already established lore and official timeline, I realised that Tyrdda Bright-Axe founded the Avvar in -620TE, that it 1815 years BC - Before Christ, I mean Before Chantry. In her codex entry, there are lots of hidden mind-bending lore nuggets. Here are a few worth discussing, whilst we're awaiting any DA4 info.

  • The Lady of the Skies was bound to an elf (like Hakkon was bound to a dragon), and was Tyrdda's lover. I don't think the Avvar knew what an elf was, so they kept referring to this person as "leaf-eared lover". Tyrdda was in a relationship with one of Avvars' goda. Watch this space for romancing Korth in DA5.

  • It said that the Old Gods whispered to humanity to try and get them to enter the Golden City. Just to remind you, Cory, LTD. did it in -395 Ancient, which is 1420 years after Thelm Gold-Handed tried to get into an alliance with the Avvar in order to find a "golden city":

"Be my bride and cross the Waking, eat the gilded city's fill."

("Gilded" means "golden")

Told his tribes a tale of treasure, over sea to north it gleamed,

Whispered words to drive the droves to golden city where he dreamed. Counseled quick in dreams alone,

Voices wiser man ignores

Which has some interesting implications.
- The Old Gods have tried to get people to assault the heavens for millenia, and not just Tevinters. Who knows who else did they try to trick into getting into the City.
- The Golden City, or the best entry to it, lies to the north of Ferelden, towards Tevinter/Elvhenan.
  • Tyrdda married the dwarven prince and had his child. It sounds hella weird, but apparently this sort of thing used to happen all the time and back then the dwarves were more involved with the surfacers, as for example they burried the Alamarri Luthias Dwarfson in Orzammar, because he married a dwarven princes. Such a thing would never happen in modern times.

  • The elf lover's name was Aval'var. Is it me, or does the Avvars' name come from this elf's name? Av(al')var. Also, Tyrdda's daughter, Morrighan'nan. Is Morrigan her reincarnation?
  • The elf lover him/herself. Wild theory time. The elf was Mythal herself. Mythal is known for making world leaders (she helped Calenhad, Marric, Warden, Hawke and Inquisitor as Flemeth), so it wouldn't be outlandish to think that she was involved with the leader of the Avvar as well. She would consider Morrighanan her adoptive daughter, and years later she would name her second adoptive daughter Morrigan as tribute to the first daughter.

The most interesting implication of all this is that the Golden City was near Elvhenan. This lends further weight to the Golden City/Arlathan theory. It also makes me wonder if the Old Gods were/are actually the spirits of ancient elves who, like Mythal, survived their physical deaths by body jumping into great dragons. That would explain Solas's and Mythal's desire to save Urthemiel's soul, as well as the Old Gods' desire to enter the Golden City (assuming it is Arlathan). That is a fascinating theory. It could also simply be that Mythal foresaw what Solas was going to do, and she wanted Urthemiel's spirit saved so she could recover it. When Solas came for her, she narrowly escaped through the eluvian, leaving just enough of her essence to greet him before he absorbed Urthemiel's power in place of her. It seemed like Mythal allowed Solas to absorb her. I'm also pretty sure that she sends something through the eluvian regardless of whether or not Urthemiel is saved, so Solas can't have absorbed him. What did she send? My theory is that she (Mythal) sent her consciousness through the mirror but left her power behind for Solas to absorb. This kills Flemeth but not Mythal herself who survived by body-hoping into someone else (maybe Yavana or Morrigan or another one of her daughters). But who knows, she could've sent anything through the eluvian.

Anyway, Solas is horrified by the grey wardens' desire to kill the Old Gods. His reaction to their idea made me think he had some personal connection to them, even before Trespasser came out. Given that Solas's number one concern is saving other ancient elves, his reaction would make perfect sense if that's what the Old Gods were/are. Though I suppose it could simply be what it is on its face - a desire to save something unique for its own sake, like saving an endangered species. Silver Warden (talk) 20:46, August 31, 2017 (UTC)
