Fiona was an elven Grey Warden mage from the Orlesian Empire.

Background

As a child of seven, she was bought as a slave by an orlesian Count, who kept her as a "pet". She was sexually and physically abused. Eventually she realized she had magical talents, and used them to kill the Count. Instead of sentencing her to death, the Count's widow sent her to the Circle of Magi. She was later recruited by Commander Genevieve. == Involvement==

Fiona was a member of the Grey Warden detachment led by Commander Genevieve. She was the only mage in the party, and they heavily relied on her magic both for offense and healing. Fiona was often blunt, unladylike and quick to anger, often times snorting derisively at Duncan or Maric. During their trip through the Deep Roads, Fiona and Duncan become good friends often sharing secrets or gossiping with each other. Duncan recalls his dream where Fiona transformed all the darkspawn into cheese and started to eat the cheese and that all Duncan could smell was feet. Fiona remarked that was disgusting to which Duncan agreed. Fiona and Duncan were also the youngest members of the Grey Warden detachment.

Fiona was also the strongest to object to Bregan and Genevieve's plan to work with The Architect. Unlike Utha who willingly agreed, Duncan who was undecided seeing the merits of both sides and Kell who disagreed but remained uncertain. Fiona believed that their plan would not end the Blight and only harm could result from working with a darkspawn.believing the darkspawn are born evil and compromising their goals to defend mankind from the Blight was not the solution. Fiona, along with Duncan and Maric are captured by Remille who has captured Circle Tower and allied himself with The Architect. They manage to defeat Remille, because of the distraction by Genevieve and Bregan. The Architect was able to escape however. Fiona and Duncan would return after many months to Denerim to meet with Maric after they had been recalled to Weissaupt to explain the situation with The Architect. Fiona revealed she would be recalled to Weisshaupt permanently to lead a search for The Architect, while Duncan would be stationed in Ferelden as second-in-command. It should also be mentioned that it has been speculated that Fiona is the only Grey Warden to be made immune to the calling as she was cured by the mages in Weisshaupt. The true reason for Fiona's journey to Denerim had been to reveal she had a child. (see below) Fiona's current whereabouts are unknown.

Relationship with King Maric

Her initial relationship with King Maric is intense and uncomfortable, as her childhood had made her intolerant of human nobility. As time passes, she learns that King Maric is actually quite the opposite of what she expected. Maric, on the other hand, is attracted by the elf, as she reminds him of his true love, Katriel, regardless of the physical differences between the two elven woman. Eventually they become romantically involved, and have a child. Fiona made Maric promise the child would be told that his mother was human and deceased. Duncan promises to monitor the child's progress.

Another interesting fact is that the child might actually be Alistair (Note:Secret Companion mentions how Maric acknowledging Alistair would have "ruined Rowan, after all. She'd be reduced to a concubine in the eyes of our neighbors, and put Cailan's status as heir in question." Because Fiona had the child after Rowan had already died, this seems unlikely). According to the novels, Dragon Age: The Calling is happening while Arl Eamon is around 25, and has already inherited his father's title. Hence, it is probable that the child was sent to him to be raised away from King's court. Alistair believes that his mother is human, as he was supposed to, and his sister might be "planted" to make the story more convincing to him. Furthermore, one can quite easily notice from the novels that King Maric is not a personality that goes around having affairs with serving girls; quite the contrary, his entire life is spent in grief and regret for the unfortunate ending with Katriel. Duncan also has the knowledge of the child, and perhaps this is the reason why he "rescues" him from the Chantry.
