The Treacherous Path is a random encounter in Dragon Age: Origins that occurs on the World map.

The Warden and their party stumble upon a camp with two dead refugees and a mysterious note.

- It is suggested that the player buff the party before approaching the corpses. The Greater shade is incredibly powerful, even on lower difficulties.
- While Paralyze and Crushing Prison may be somewhat useless on the Greater Shade, Stonefist knocks it down quite easily if the player has invested heavily in Spellpower. Mana Clash will greatly hurt them, but will also generate a lot of aggro for a mage.
- The encounter seems to be an Easter Egg referencing the Lord of the Rings film. In the console commands, this encounter is named "LotR", and the note found on one of the bodies, the Tattered Note, mentions the eagles from the third film.
