This longsword is a reward obtained from the family chest during the quest The Cousland Treasury for the Human Noble Origin story.

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening

This sword can be pick-pocketed from various characters:

• Ser Timothy and Lady Morag during the Oaths of Fealty side quest.
• Private handling out Warden correspondence outside the entrance of Vigil's Keep.
• Yuriah, the merchant inside the Vigil's Keep - Throne Room.
• Both soldiers discussing the recent darkspawn attack on Vigil's Keep, near Voldrik Glavonak.

Note: Vigil's Keep is "reset" after finishing Cost of Doing Business and What is Built Endures side quests, allowing additional three swords to be stolen from two soldiers and Private respectively. Private also carries a small purse of about 50, that may also reappear after the quests.
