Lord Esmeral Abernache is an influential member of the Orlesian nobility who allies with the Inquisition.
Involvement[]
In order to present the Inquisition as an attractive potential ally to the Templar Order under the aloof Lord Seeker Lucius Corin, Josephine Montilyet gathers a coalition of ten Orlesian noble families to pressure the Templars to help the Inquisition seal the Breach. Lord Esmeral Abernache is the nominal leader of the nobles; Josephine advises that while the Herald of Andraste should sign nothing he offers, his gossip is reliable.
Lord Abernache is met just outside the main gates of the Templars' base at Therinfal Redoubt, where he greets the Herald and attempts to learn why the Inquisition had so suddenly piqued the Lord Seeker's interest. When the Herald and Abernache greet Ser Delrin Barris before the castle courtyard, Abernache is put off by Barris' ignoring him to speak with the Herald, pointedly noting that Barris is only a second son of minor Fereldan nobility.
Once inside the courtyard, Ser Barris requests the Herald to complete a customary flag-raising ritual before going on to meet the Lord Seeker. Abernache becomes agitated and insists the ritual is a waste of time. After deciding whether or not to proceed with the ritual, the Herald's party enters the castle where they are met by Knight-Captain Denam rather than the Lord Seeker as expected.
Afterwards, Abernache continues to support the Inquisition in a diplomatic role.
If Movran the Under is assigned to be his co-ambassador at Josephine's suggestion, the two develop something approximating a grudging mutual respect and become a highly effective entourage, with Josephine noting the value of the Inquisition's threat of "not recalling our ambassadors".
