Elric Maraigne is a member of King Cailan Theirin's honor guard who fought during the Battle of Ostagar.
Involvement[]
Elric encounters the Warden while pursued by Bann Loren's men, who captured and tortured him after his flight from the Battle of Ostagar. Elric recognizes the Warden from Ostagar. He reveals Cailan entrusted him with the key to the Royal Arms Chest. Elric stashed the key at the base of a statue within the camp for fear of losing it during the battle. He tells the Warden that he was instructed to give the key to the Grey Wardens if anything happened to Cailan. He also mentions Cailan's Secret Correspondence to Empress Celene I in the chest, warning of danger if it fell in the wrong hands. If Alistair is present, he notes that Cailan also stored their father's blade in the chest. Before succumbing to his injuries, he implores the Warden to give King Cailan's corpse a proper burial.
