Dragon Age: Vows and Vengeance[]
In his estate in Minrathous, Elio prepares a lavish breakfast for his lover Nadia and proposes to her with his great-grandmother’s ring. As a Liberati, Nadia thinks marrying a magister would only subject her to stares and gossip and paint a target on her back. Elio is optimistic that he can use his title to mitigate any backlash to their marriage, but Nadia thinks Elio's privileged life blinds him to the limitations of her harsher reality. Angered by his dismissal of her feelings on the matter, she leaves the estate, though she keeps the ring.
Elio laments his failed proposal while strolling through a Minrathous marketplace only to notice he was being followed by Neve Gallus. Neve reveals herself and informs Elio that his lover, Nadia Carcosa, is about to endanger herself by stealing the Eye of Kethisca. Elio uses his status as a magister to gain access to the Archives of Arcanist Hall in order to confront Nadia and dissuade her from completing the heist. Elio tells Nadia they can go back to their normal lives and is successful in convincing her to abandon the heist, but as they were leaving, they are intercepted by Imperial templars who accuse them of treason. With Elio's attempts to negotiate failing to persuade the templars, Nadia knocks over stacks of relics so that she and Elio can make their escape.
Nadia and Elio flee to Docktown where they meet Neve. Elio accuses Neve of tipping off the templars and implicating them of treason. Neve denies notifying the templars and suspects their predicament is the work of the Dread Wolf. Suddenly, the trio is attacked by Venatori assassins and Neve and Elio use their magic to defend themselves. The Eye of Kethisca reacts to Elio's magic and unleashes a magical wave that incapacitate many in the chaotic brawl. Despite Neve's futile attempts to prevent the couple from leaving and warning them of the Eye's danger to them, Nadia and Elio recover quickly and escape Docktown on a boat, leaving Neve behind.
Although Elio frets about the irreplaceable artifacts that were destroyed in Arcanist Hall and their new lives as Tevinter fugitives, he takes comfort in the fact that he and Nadia will face whatever tribulations life has in store for them as a couple. Elio notices that Nadia is wearing his great-grandmother's ring around her neck, which gives Elio hope that she is becoming more positive about the prospect of their marriage. Nadia and Elio decide to complete the heist job so they can acquire enough coin to fund their next move.
Nadia and Elio meet with Solas, the buyer of the Eye, at the Silent Plains. Solas grants Nadia her reward, and in exchange, Nadia in turn fulfills her end of the deal and instructs Elio to give Solas the Eye. The relic however, is still magically reacting to Elio, which makes Elio and Nadia nervous. Solas calms everyone down and casts a spell that stabilizes the Eye. Solas explains that the Eye of Kethisca is a powerful artifact connected to the Fade and is tied to Elio's bloodline. Solas says that he was preventing the Eye from falling into the Venatori's hands and that the Eye can amplify Elio's power, since he has established a bond with it. With that in mind, Solas entices Elio by telling him he is a powerful Rift Mage that can use the Eye's power to create the reform he wants. Although Elio was warned that the Eye would destroy the world, Solas corrects him by telling him that some confuse a reckoning with an ending, and what he seeks to accomplish for the world is regeneration.
Solas takes Nadia and Elio to a cave leading to an ancient chamber where the Veil is fragile. Solas tells them that there are things in motion that require his guidance in order to produce the best possible outcome, but in order to achieve that, he requires Elio's help. The ancient chamber they are taken to was home to many deplorable blood sacrifices that weakened the Veil. When Elio asks if the Eye will help remedy the situation, Solas responds with "More or less." Since he can no longer use his title to help his people, Elio believes that helping Solas is his last chance create positive change for the Tevinter Imperium.
Solas and Elio use the Eye to perform a magical ritual that eventually goes awry. Elio could feel something wrong mid-ritual and wants to stop but Solas presses him to continue and warns him if he stops, the Eye could explode. Elio was seemingly banished to the Fade while the chaotic magic engulfed the chamber. Solas ushered Nadia to flee the danger, apologizing to Nadia for her loss as they do so. Wherever Elio is, he was able to briefly communicate to Nadia that she is his only hope to escape the Fade via telepathy. Nadia then resolves to rescue Elio.[1]
It is later revealed that Elio was killed by the demon Maeror when he used the Eye to open a Fade rift. After killing Elio, Maeror posed as Elio in order to trick Nadia into letting it possess her. However, Nadia and her friends uncovered Maeror's ruse and killed it. Nadia reclaimed Elio's engagement ring from Maeror and afterwards held a funeral for Elio on his estate. Nadia promises to forever cherish his engagement ring and also to continue his legacy by living with kindness, grace, and love.[2]
