See Wade's Drakeskin Armor Set or Wade's Superior Drakeskin Armor Set for information on the armor.

Master Wade in Denerim's Market District can make amazing drake scale armor if you give him enough drake scales. He seems positively eager to do so.

Walkthrough

The drake scales are found on drakes in the Wyrmling Lair during the quest for the Urn of Sacred Ashes. Slaying six drakes will yield six scales on their corpses. In the Circle Tower there are also three drakescales to be found, one from a drake and the two others are located in a locked chest nearby. These can then be brought to Wade, at his shop Wade's Emporium, for some rewards.

When talking to Wade you will be given the option to pay Wade for his service. If you choose not to it will not affect the quality of the drakeskin armor, however it will affect the quality of the dragonscale armor if you choose to have Wade make this for you later.

You have the option to pay him either 10 Gold (if this is the first commissioned piece) or 20 Gold (if it is the second) in order to make it perfect. If you paid the additional sovereigns for a commissioned piece, either the first or the second, when you give Wade the Dragon Scale he will be sufficiently skilled to craft the superior version of the Dragon Scale Armor. If you did not pay the additional sovereigns (either ten the first time or twenty the second), you will only get the normal version of the Dragon Scale Armor.

Optimum Order

In summary, the optimum order is to follow this sequence:

  1. Give him three Drake Scales and pay 10 Gold to get Wade's Drakeskin Armor
  2. Hand over the last three Drake Scales to get Wade's Superior Drakeskin Armor (shop closes).
  3. Lastly, present the single Dragon Scale. This grants you either Wade's Superior Dragonskin Armor, Wade's Superior Dragonscale Armor, or Wade's Superior Dragonbone Plate Armor, depending on choice.

This does not have to be done all in one go. You can get the Drakeskin Armor, use its fire resistance property to help defeat the High Dragon, then come back at a later date with the Dragon Scale. Also, you can switch the order of steps two and three if you already have the Dragon Scales and still get the same result. That may even be preferred as it keeps Wade's shop open longer (see below). You only need 3 or 6 drake scales the rest serve no purpose.

Shop Closure

After the Drakeskin Armor is produced, the shop will remain open for you. After the Superior Drakeskin Armor is produced, Herren will tell you that they've lost customers thanks to Wade taking so long on your order, and will bar you from the store. You can still collect one of the Dragonscale Armors if you have not done so already (as Wade overrules Herren if you bring up the topic of Dragon Scales), but you cannot access the store's regular inventory. If you want to buy anything from the Emporium (such as the unique The Felon's Coat or Evon the Great's Mail), make sure you do so before getting the Superior Drakeskin Armor.

Paying extra for both sets of Drakeskin Armor will not stop Herren from closing the shop. However, if you skip the second set of Drakeskin Armor altogether and craft the Dragonscale Armors the shop will remain open.

Bugs

  • pcpc Sometimes the final three drake scales will not drop until the first three have been turned in, this requires the player return to Denerim before killing the final three drakes.
