Drakes are mature male dragonlings. They are commonly found guarding dragon lairs. They do not develop wings like female dragons.

Drakes are intelligent, almost sly, yet ferocious beasts. Once they have fully matured, male dragons seek out the lairs of adult females. When they find one, they move into her lair and spend the rest of their lives there, hunting for her and defending her young. Drakes never develop wings, unlike female dragons; at most, their forelegs grow vestigial spurs where wing membranes might have been. They have no need for powerful wings because once they bond with a female, they rarely travel far from her lair.[1][2]
Drakes fight with sharp claws and crushing bites. They can spit gouts of flame and strike pulverizing blows with their tails. Drake Scales form a tough natural armor and their hides are prized for making suits of highly effective armor.[3]
A high dragon will have a dozen or more drakes guarding her young, constantly fighting among themselves for the right to mate. They will aggressively defend her nest, and many would-be dragon hunters have been lost to their fiery breath and crushing blows from their tails. Drakes can live for a century, but usually die much earlier while defending the lair.[4]

Information
- This talent generates an auto-hit.
- The target is incapacitated and hit several times, each for normal attack damage from the attacker.
- It is generally activated by the AI when the target dips to 50% or less health, as this is the default tactic for creatures with Overwhelm of any type. In Awakening, enemies would use this ability even when the target is at full health.
- Can be interrupted by effects that have higher animation priority, including knockdown, paralyze, root (Pinning Shot), draining (Crushing Prison), "heavy impact" (Mighty Blow), and fear.

Notes
- This ability can fail to execute properly in some cases due to obstructed line of sight.
- Overwhelm only affects humans, elves, dwarves, Qunari, hurlocks, and genlocks. All classes with Overwhelm are immune to its effect. A shapeshifted mage, Shale, and Dog are immune to Overwhelm.
- Several enemies in a group can easily chain-Overwhelm against a solo character, which may be lethal for units with little armor, and very annoying and time consuming for highly armored characters, as openings to counterattack are few, short-lived, and far between. This threat is greatest when facing a large group of Shadow werewolves, as they can Overwhelm a defenseless party member from Stealth, evading countermeasures.
- This attack cannot be countered or mitigated by Misdirection Hex, as it does not need to confirm attack result.
- Some abilities grant a target the "damage ward" effect which makes the target immune to damage. This effect completely negates Overwhelm. These abilities include Force Field, Strength of Stone, and Carapace after being upgraded by Bulwark of the Ages.
- Some modal abilities apply on the character a special effect which has higher animation priority than Overwhelm. This means the character cannot be interrupted by Overwhelm when any of these abilities is active. These abilities include Captivating Song, Unending Flurry, and Reaving Storm.

Notes
- Wade can make armor (Wade's Drakeskin Armor and Wade's Superior Drakeskin Armor) from drake scales.
- It is possible to get a random encounter on the world map called The Low Road with a drake.
- Six are found in the Mountainside Caverns. One is always present. Three spawn in the room with caged animals if you (or someone in your party) are not stealthed. Two can be summoned by the arcane warrior if he is left alive long enough to summon them.

- It is possible to steal from drakes.
- Due to a translation error, the drakes are named as "small dragons" in the Polish language version of the game.
