The purpose of a strategy guide is to inform the player of how to plan their opposition to a specific opponent. It should not be a blow-by-blow description of a combat sequence.

A strategy guide should:

  • Have their page named "<opponent name> (strategy)" such as Arishok (strategy) and High dragon (strategy).
  • Include the Category:Strategies tag.
  • Provide strengths, weaknesses and special abilities of the opponent described
  • If the opponent appears in multiple games and is significantly different in combat, then there should be multiple strategy pages with a disambiguation page to direct players appropriately.
    • For example, Corypheus is a significantly different opponent in Legacy and in Inquisition, therefore those two are different strategy pages.
  • Clearly note combat phases marked by the opponent regenerating or transforming such as in The Elder One (strategy) or Imshael when present.
  • Cross-link from the quest page to the strategy page and vice-versa if an opponent appears in only one quest such as the Archdemon in The Battle of Denerim.
  • Avoid being a tactics guide and should not provide overly specific combat sequences.
  • Avoid descriptions that rely on specific party composition or non-quest objects.
    • Avoid writing "First stealth the party rogue and then have a warrior aggro the Death Nug..." unless the the Death Nug has a specific weakness to stealth and aggro.
    • An exception to this is combats in which the player solos against the opponent such as Arishok (strategy) or Loghain Mac Tir (strategy) and for which a separate section for each character class is appropriate.

Strategy guides should use the following template for sections. Sections marked with a # should only be used where appropriate and removed if not. If an ability changes due to game difficulty, that should be noted by that ability like this: "155770 / 311541 HP (Nightmare difficulty)".

Description[]

Brief physical description and classification (demon, darkspawn, dwarf, etc.). Where known, opponent level, HP and armor rating.

Attacks[]

All attack forms, including types of physical and elemental damage, disabling attacks and summonings.

Defenses[]

Elemental resistances, immunities and other defenses.

Vulnerabilities[]

Specific ability type weaknesses such as "Cold Vulnerability".

Other Abilities[]

Abilities which do not fit into attacks or defenses, such as a Behemoth's ability to create a red lyrium barricade.

Appearances[]

Links to specific quests or "commonly encountered in <description of areas>". For example, Giant spiders are "commonly encountered in caves and in the Deep Roads".

#Combat phases[]

Brief descriptions of each phase and any changes to the opponent's abilities, other opponents appearing and so on. Storytelling should be avoided. Use subsections to demarcate each phase:

Phase 1[]

Phase 2[]

and so on.

#Per class strategies[]

Limited to specific weaknesses to a particular class ability more specific than a Vulnerability above or in the case of solo combats, specific class strategies listed as subsections, one for each class.
