Unless there is a significant problem with a picture (such as poor resolution or lighting) we encourage people not to change pictures. This is because there can be many different opinions about what looks good which can lead to multiple changes with no improvement. Essentially when it comes to pictures "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

More generally, before uploading an image please check to make sure it doesn't already exist in the wiki. If it does, but your version is clearly better, select the "upload a new image" option in the file. Please also make sure that images have high resolution and reasonably illustrate the subject in question and if you find a page where there are more images than there is text, consider removing less informative pictures, or making a gallery. If you have the option, consider uploading your file in PNG format.

Every users of this wiki (both registered and unregistered) are encouraged to follow the below guidelines regarding handling the images.

Infobox pictures

This is the most important picture for articles using an infobox, especially for characters. For the Infoboxes, that we should use the picture that would best represent them. Examples:

  • Leliana has a cameo in Dragon Age II, but her role in Dragon Age: Origins is clearly bigger. As such, it makes more sense to use her picture for Origins.
  • Merrill appears in Origins, but her role in Dragon Age II is more prominent. The Dragon Age II picture is used.

This depends on their role in the game, on whichever appearance is most likely to be associated with. We are aware this is subjective, but that is why we have talk pages to discuss if the picture is appropriate or not.

There are other characters who are equally or so important in any game. For example, Delilah Howe appears briefly in Dragon Age II, as she does in Awakening. In that case, we keep the version of the latest game.

The Warden/ Hawke/ Hawke's family

Pictures with a customized Warden, Hawke should be removed if they are featured on any mainspace articles. Pictures that contains default versions of The Warden and Hawke are permitted to include in the articles. Apart from that official pictures from Bioware are also permitted to include in the articles.

For "Bethany, Carver and Leandra", it is appropriate to use the default Hawke's family. This is because they have been heavily promoted (much like default male Hawke).

Armor sets/ Items sets

It is extremely difficult to take a picture of an armor set without taking the Warden's face on it, as some of them are restricted. As such cases, we can allow them.

However, for "item sets for Dragon Age II", the default Hawke is best used. On the issue on female versus male, this is going to be at the discretion of the uploader. If it uses customized Hawke, it can stay; but later, it will be replaced with a picture that use the default Hawke.

Gallery section on articles

There should not be multiple images to prove the same point. For example, Sebastian Vael has tons of pictures of him about to kill some creature, but he roughly always takes the same stance. One or two pictures of him attacking whatever is fine, but nothing more than that. Even though some of these pictures are official images from Bioware, we shouldn't upload all of them just because they are there.

Concept art should be featured in the gallery.

If the picture has the user interface on, it should be replaced unless it is to make a point.

If the quality of the picture is bad and you know there can be a better one, upload it, remove the current file from the article. If the picture is bad and doesn't really serve any purpose other than the character standing idly (when there are other pictures where the character is doing that), remove it as well.

Deletion of images

If a picture is not used at all for a lengthy period of time (more than one month), there is no problem with deleting it. This special page is to unclog the Special:UnusedFiles. It helps for maintenance purposes.

Reuploading pictures

Unless there is a significant problem with a picture (such as poor resolution or lighting) we encourage people not to change pictures. This is because there can be many different opinions about what looks good which can lead to multiple changes with no improvement. Essentially when it comes to pictures "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

  • Before uploading an image please check to make sure it doesn't already exist in the wiki.
  • If it does, but your version is clearly better, select the "upload a new image" option in the file.
  • Please make sure that images have high resolution and reasonably illustrate the subject in question.
  • If you find a page where there are more images than there is text, consider removing less informative pictures, or making a gallery. If you have the option, consider uploading your file in PNG format.
