Donnen Brennokovic is the main character of Dragon Age: Hard in Hightown.

Background

Donnen is the fictional protagonist of Varric Tethras' best-selling crime serial, Hard in Hightown. He is a veteran member of the Kirkwall City Guard, two weeks away from retirement.

While patrolling Kirkwall's Hightown at night, Donnen and his fellow guardsman Jevlan discover the corpse of Magistrate Dunwald. As Donnen investigates his murder, he comes into conflict with a mysterious organization known as the Executors, agents of the Chantry, and various self-interested parties over the fate of the Sword of Hessarian, the sword that killed Andraste. Though he is ultimately successful in bringing Dunwald's murderer to justice, Donnen is seriously wounded during the course of his investigation. He is also successful in recovering the Sword of Hessarian. He decides to return it to the Divine, and asks for no other reward than having her put in a good word for him with the Maker.

• The book started a fistfight in the Kirkwall barracks over whether Donnen Brennokovic was inspired by Donnic Hendyr or Brennan Evighan.
