Delphine was a Magister who lived in Minrathous in 8:65 Blessed.[1]
Background[]
In 8:65 Blessed, Delphine engaged in a love affair with another mage, Quirinus. To hide their relationship and thus avoid interference from his family, Delphine took the advice of her sister Aulia and spent gold to spread the rumor that she and Quirinus were bitter rivals. However, Delphine eventually found that Quirinus was cheating on her with a soporati and threw boiling water at his face when they quarrelled. Believing that Quirinus would want to enact revenge, Delphine sacrificed her elven kitchen slave Leonora in a ritual she'd been taught in secret by her master to empower herself. She saw no harm in it, as kitchen slaves are easily bought on the markets.[2]
In a secret letter, Leonora's father, Solvarin Brann, a scribe in Magister Delphine's household, noted his daughter's disappearance. Given the rumors that one of Magister Delphine's rivals had been publicly humiliated in a duel (likely a reference to Quirinus' injuries) and the difference in Delphine's behavior, Solvarin correctly concluded that his daughter had been sacrificed in a blood magic ritual. His letter also stated that he longed to confront Magister Delphine, but that such an audience would be a joke to her. His letter was eventually found in Coracavus, an infamous prison in the Western Approach.[3]
