“Ah my little Fenris, predictable as always.”

Background

Danarius is a Tevinter magister and Fenris' former master. He is mentioned in Acts I-II and seen in Act 3 during Fenris's quest Alone.

Involvement

Act 1

Fenris talks about his former master's brutality and how he had used Fenris to "intimidate other magisters" by showing off his lyrium markings. When Hawke first meets Fenris he/she can help him assault Danarius's mansion in hopes of finding and killing Danarius. By the time they get there, however, Danarius has fled back to Tevinter, leaving Fenris his mansion in Hightown to take over.

Act 2

If Hawke has enough Friendship/Rivalry points, Fenris will tell him/her about his past experiences with Danarius. He will mention that Danarius held on to him dearly, considering him [Fenris] his greatest possession.

While traveling around the country side with Fenris in your party, the party is attacked by Tevinter slavers and mercenaries. After defeating them, the remaining men reveal they were hired by Danarius's apprentice, Hadriana, to kill Fenris. Whether or not Danarius ordered the attack is unknown, as Danarius has more use for Fenris alive.

Act 3

During the Companion Quest Alone, Hawke and Fenris travel to the Hanged Man to meet Fenris's sister. Once there they are confronted by Danarius himself, who reveals it was a trap to reclaim his "property" and tells Fenris that his sister sold him out for a higher ranking in Minrathous. He will then try to convince Hawke to return Fenris to him. Hawke can either agree or provoke a fight.

Letter from Danarius

If Hawke gives Fenris back to Danarius, a letter will appear at the Hawke Estate from Danarius. The letter states that they have returned to Tevinter and Fenris's memory has been wiped again, now returned to his "compliant self". Oddly, the letter mentions some reward, though after opening the letter, none is included.

If Hawke provokes a fight then a massive brawl in the Hanged Man ensues, ending with Fenris killing Danarius with the very tools his former master gave him.

Quotes

  • "Oh, how little you know, my pet."
  • (to Hawke) " Do I detect a note of jealousy? It's not surprising. The lad is rather skilled, isn't he?"
  • "Now, now, Fenris. Don't blame your sister. She did what any good Imperial citizen should."
  • "You weren't always this way, Fenris. Once upon a time you had affection for me. I remember it fondly."
