Daerwin's Mouth is an ancient dwarven port which once connected the nearby thaigs to the Waking Sea[1]. It is located in the northwestern most region of the Storm Coast.

Background

In ancient times[2] the subterranean port served as a popular meeting place for ambassadors from the Tevinter Imperium and Orzammar. Daerwin's Mouth was favored by the dwarves who avoided the surface in fear of losing their connection to the Stone.[3] The large statue at Morrin's Outlook was used to serve as a marker for incoming ships looking to trade with the dwarves.[4] Once the darkspawn incursions started closing in Orzammar, the dwarves sealed all of the underground routes leading to the port. All reputable use of the port ceased allowing bandits, pirates and smugglers to use the port for their own malicious interests.[5] Rich merchant ships blanket the depths due to the follies of their proud captains.[6]

Involvement

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Inquisition.

In 9:41 Dragon, a number of boats flying Templar Order insignia have washed up along the shores of the Storm Coast, eventually leading the Inquisition to realize that the Red Templars have repurposed Daerwin's Mouth in favor of of further progressing the Elder One's agenda. The Inquisitor can gain access to the region by completing the Red Templars on the Storm Coast war table operation in Skyhold.

Note: Daerwin's Mouth is only accessible once the side quest Red Water is acquired; this, in turn, requires that the Inquisitor be at or above level 16, and have completed the war table operation Red Templars on the Storm Coast. Daerwin's Mouth entrance can be found north by northwest from the Driftwood Margin Camp.

Notes

  • Traversing Daerwin's Mouth is the only way to access Dragon Island.
  • The claimable landmark uses the "Point of Interest" map icon; however once the side quest Red Water is completed the icon is changed to a Town icon, allowing for the landmark to be used as fast travel marker.

Bugs

  • After completing the side quest Red Water traveling through Daerwin's Mouth will allow for the Red Templar Key to be looted over and over again from a carcass located just past the two boats prior to entering the cave leading into Daerwin's Mouth.
