Crafting in Dragon Age: Inquisition allows the player to create unique weapons, armor, and runes as well as potions, tonics and grenades.
In order to craft weapons or armor, crafting materials and schematics are needed. These items can be found randomly or bought from merchants. The materials used in crafting affect the specific stats of a resulting item, while schematics determine item appearance and potential power. To craft runes, the player must read glyphs by veilfire.
Weapon and Armor Material Slots
Schematics allow the placement of a set number of leather, metal, or cloth into a recipe and will determine the outcome of the item.
The primary slot governs the attack value of weapons, the armor value of armor, and the elemental damage type of staves.
The utility slot controls what primary attribute will be upgraded.
The offense slot provides a unique attack ability.
The defense slot provides various resistances.
Higher level weapon and armor schematics might have a masterwork slot that can optionally be filled by a masterwork crafting material that can offer a unique bonus.
Some weapons and armor require their own schematics to allow additional upgrade slots.
Crafting runes require a rune recipe.

The player can speak with an apothecary to upgrade potions using herbs that have been gathered in the wilderness.
The Equip Station can be used to assign different potions to each party member and replenish potions that are being carried.
The Upgrade Station can be used to unlock permanent upgrades to potions. Potion upgrades require a significant amount of herbs to unlock; in return, they give permanent and significant bonuses to potions.
Tonics enhance resistance or can be used to augment combat.
Grenades are throwing vials with area-of-effect properties.
