See Bann Ceorlic for his son.

Bann Ceorlic was the Fereldan noble who treacherously assassinated Moira the Rebel Queen. Unfortunately for him, he allowed her son, Maric, to escape.

Involvement

Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne.

Ceorlic and a number of other banns, under the order of the Orlesian Usurper Meghren, lured Queen Moira Theirin to a meeting in the Bannorn, supposedly to form an alliance, but instead, Ceorlic and his allies betrayed and murdered her. Ceorlic had Moira's head sent to Meghren, who had it mounted above the gates of Fort Drakon. Unfortunately, Ceorlic and his fellows failed to kill Moira's son, Maric.

Many years later, when the war against the occupation was turning in the favour of the Fereldan rebels, Maric contacted Ceorlic and his fellow assassins, inviting them to a meeting at a Chantry in the Bannorn, offering them amnesty in exchange for their support. The banns went, but the meeting was a trap; Maric had no intention of an alliance, he simply wished to avenge his mother's death. Ceorlic and his lackeys were dubious Maric would commit the sacrilege of committing murder in a Chantry, especially when they'd made sure other banns knew where they were going, but they underestimated Maric's desire for vengeance, and he and Loghain slaughtered them all.

Maric spared Ceorlic until last. Ceorlic desperately begged for his life, offering Maric anything; Maric coldly replied that what he wanted back from Ceorlic (his mother) was something the bann couldn't give him, then executed Ceorlic for his treason. His son, also a Bann, is present in the Landsmeet, and invariably votes for Loghain. Ceorlic's son retained his father's title only because he swore loyalty to Maric and denounced his father's part in Moira's death (Maric having warned the children of his mother's killers that if they did not do so, he would slaughter them all and give their lands to those who understood what it meant to betray him).
