Teyrna Celia Mac Tir was the wife of Loghain Mac Tir and mother to Queen Anora.[1]

Background[]

Celia was a patient and detail-oriented woman who came from a long line of cabinet-makers and had little tolerance for people who neglect their furniture. After the newly appointed Teyrn of Gwaren, Loghain Mac Tir, had spent a month living in a tent instead of seeing to the repairs of Castle Gwaren, Celia was sent as a representative of the town to see whether the new Teyrn would abandon the keep and the village as had his Orlesian predecessors. Their discussion quickly devolved into a shouting match; in the end, she reminded him that he wouldn't be Teyrn of anything unless his freeholders swore fealty to him, which they wouldn't do if he left Castle Gwaren crumbling and empty. Loghain reluctantly followed her advice, appointing Celia to supervise the keep's repairs. Two months later, Loghain asked Celia to marry him, and she accepted.[2][3] Their daughter, Anora, was born a few years later.

While Loghain spent much of his time with King Maric in Denerim, Celia used her incomparable skills as her foreman to rebuild Gwaren. She saw to the repair of the port, the maintenance of the roads, and the operation of the lumber mills, getting them back to working order for the first time in almost an age. Celia also cared for their young daughter, who loved her very much and would follow her like her shadow. By 9:10 Dragon, Celia had become concerned that Loghain spent too much time away from their daughter. Even Maric had remarked on the length of Loghain's absence from his family, saying that everyone runs away from something.[4] The couple argued loudly, but Loghain eventually relented and began bringing Anora to court with him.[2]

King Maric's disappearance and Anora's marriage to King Cailan Theirin put an end to Loghain's visits to Denerim for a time. Loghain returned to Gwaren to spend time with Celia, and remained in relative peace and quiet for the next three years. When Teyrna Celia died in 9:28, the king, the queen and the entire royal court traveled to Castle Gwaren for her funeral. The death of Celia affected Loghain deeply. When the king and queen left, so did Loghain, never to return to Gwaren.[2]
