Bryce along with his son Fergus are in the middle of preparing the armies of Highever to march for Ostagar. While Duncan makes an unannounced arrival during his search for possible recruits, his eyes were supposedly set on Ser Gilmore at the time of his arrival. When Bryce's youngest child - The Warden - makes an entrance they are re-introduced to Arl Rendon Howe a longtime friend of Bryce's and an ally of Highever, after a brief discussion Bryce sends his child off to say goodbye to Fergus the older son, while Duncan, Rendon and Bryce discuss some important matters.

Later Bryce comes to see his son Fergus along side his wife Eleanor before they leave with the bulk of the army. During the course of the night Arl Howe's men attack Highever and during the fighting Bryce is deeply wounded but shrugs, off all attempts at help from Ser Gilmore and the remaining guards as he searches for his family, by the time he makes it to the Kitchen his wounds overwhelm him and leave him dying in the pantry where he is found shortly after by his wife and youngest child The Warden. Bryce tries to force his family to escape through the servant's entrance before Howe's men make it any deeper into the castle, while Duncan arrives to see what has happened. Eleanor stays along side Bryce as his final moments encroach and Duncan takes their child to become a Grey Warden as a deal for making sure the child escapes Highever to warn Fergus and avenge the Cousland name.

He later appears as the specter within the Gauntlet during the quest of discovering the Urn of Sacred Ashes, but only if the Warden is from of the human noble origin.
