The Brosca family is a casteless family living in Dust Town, the poverty-stricken and crime-riddled ghetto of Orzammar.

As the family does not belong to a caste, they must survive by any means necessary. In this case, Rica Brosca and her younger sibling, the Dwarf Commoner, work for the Carta boss, Beraht. Prior to this, Rica and possibly her sibling swept streets to survive.

The Dwarf Commoner, whether male or female, is hired muscle and acts as Beraht's enforcer. Rica is a noble hunter and involved in an affair with Prince Bhelen Aeducan that she hopes will result in giving birth to a son. Should this occur her son will take the caste of his father and be a noble from House Aeducan. This will vastly improve the fortunes of the family because Rica and her immediate family will move to live with the infant son. The debt to Beraht will also be paid since he seeks to elevate his status by claiming to be a distant uncle of Rica.

The two siblings live with their drunken, embittered mother Kalah Brosca. Rica and the Dwarf Commoner have different fathers. Kalah and the Dwarf Commoner's father intended to "bind a marriage" but Kalah refused to pursue his dream of leaving for the surface for a better life. He vanished when the Dwarf Commoner was a baby, presumably to the surface, never to be heard from again. The loss of the Dwarf Commoner's father is the cause of Kalah's drunkenness.

While working for Beraht, the Dwarf Commoner is forced to participate in a celebratory Proving for the Grey Wardens which they eventually win. However a few moments later their true identity is revealed causing outrage among dwarves because casteless are forbidden to participate. The Dwarf Commoner is apprehended and, through bribery, ends up in Carta's prison cells since Beraht wants to punish the Dwarf Commoner himself. The Dwarf Commoner however escapes, kills Beraht, and becomes the Warden after Duncan uses the Right of Conscription. If the Warden is of another Origin then the Dwarf Commoner dies in Carta's cells. Some time later Rica and Bhelen have a son, Endrin, named after his paternal grandfather. Rica will then become a royal concubine and move to the Royal Palace along with her mother.

If the Dwarf Commoner dies at the end of the Fifth Blight:

Unlike non-dwarven Origins, the body is not cremated but returns to Orzammar to buried in the Stone as the dwarven religion dictates, instead of going to Weisshaupt. After months of deliberation, the Assembly posthumously names the Dwarf Commoner a Paragon and a new noble House is founded in their name. So many casteless flock to join the new House that it becomes the largest in Orzammar. Considering all the members of Brosca family move to the new noble House, the Brosca family is de facto dissolved.

If the Dwarf Commoner survives the events of the Fifth Blight:

The Assembly elevates the Dwarf Commoner into warrior caste and after months of deliberation the Dwarf Commoner is unanimously declared Paragon and a statue is erected in the Commons.

In both scenarios the Broscas are briefly Warrior caste before being elevated to Noble caste.

Events taking place before 9:41 Dragon and the Dwarf Commoner is alive:

King Harrowmont proudly builds a statue for Paragon Brosca in the Hall of Heroes. If Bhelen is the king instead, Rica is no longer his concubine but his official wife. He erects the statue of the Paragon in front of the Royal Palace instead of the more traditional Hall of Heroes as a statement of how much he wishes Orzammar to venerate the noble House of his wife.
