Background[]

Templatetools This section is incomplete and requires expansion.

After the events that unfold during either Champions of the Just or In Hushed Whispers, Briony will join the Inquisition.

Involvement[]

If Champions of the Just was completed...

Perendale mages[]

The Inquisition receives a request from the city of Perendale to remove a group of mages who have locked themselves in their former Circle Tower. The populace fears that the mages may be planning for the city as well. Knight-Captain Briony requests to handle the situation personally to prove herself to the Inquisition.

Inquisition soldiers accompany her and the Templars to the Circle and while the mages were initially hostile, the Templars managed to subdue them without any casualties. Upon questioning, they discovered that the mages had remained in the city following the uprisings. Fearful of what the populace would do, they barricaded themselves inside the tower. Following the incident the Templars were able to safely escort the mages from the city and offered them a place within the Inquisition.

The Inquisition's presence does not go unnoticed. Word spreads that the Inquisition has successfully reined in the Templars—a feat the Chantry could not manage. Had the Inquisition not interceded, the danger the Perendale mages posed to the public—or the public to the mages—could easily have ended in bloodshed.[1]

Wending Wood mages[]

There are rumors of blood mages lurking about the Wending Wood. Jospehine has received several complaints from merchants traveling the Pilgrim's Path, a frequently ventured trade route situated between Denerim and the City of Amaranthine, and refers the matter to Cullen for investigation.[2]

The Inquisition's investigation uncovers several murdered mages just off the main road. Reports confirm that they do not appear to be blood mages, and that their corpses were purposefully dragged from where they were originally killed, as if someone intended for them to be discovered. A young noblewoman, rumored to be a mage sympathizer, is also found murdered soon after. Some mages start to blame the Inquisition's templars for the murders, which could potentially cause the Inquisition to lose the support of the nobility in Ferelden.

Further investigation proves that this was the work of an extremist cell of rebel mages who fear that the Inquisition's association with the templars will permanently crush what remains of their rebellion and have been actively working to stir up anti-templar and anti-Inquisition sentiment.[3]

Led by Knight-Captain Briony, the Inquisition's templars confront the mages in the Wending Wood. A few young mages surrender when offered amnesty and are taken to Skyhold, while the rest are defeated by the templars, thus restoring peace to the Wending Wood.[4]

Vicomte Tremane Pontival[]

Cullen receives a missive from Vicomte Tremane Pontival in regards to events that unfolded at Therinfal Redoubt. The vicomte discloses that his brother, Leontine Pontival, lost his life aiding the Inquisition and blames the military commander.

"I call upon you, as a man of supposed honor, to answer for his death in a duel to be fought in Val Royeaux at dawn in one week’s time."

Briony, per Cullen's request, is sent to represent the Inquisition and partake in the duel in front of the Grand Cathedral. She proves vigilant and forces the vicomte to concede in front of the crowd of nobles that had gathered.[5]

Inquisition watch[]

A few mages are apprehended trying to escape into the mountains after unsuccessfully attacking an Inquisition watch. One of the sergeants guarding the gate is severely injured in the scuffle with a lightning spell. The troops manage to subdue the three mages and place them in the stockade. In the mean time Fiona receives word of the incident and writes Cullen a letter pleading that he go easy on those responsible, blaming it on their youth. To Briony's dismay Cullen has her release the prisoners near the Fereldan border.[6]

An Invitation from the Emperor[]

The Inquisition receives an invitation from Gaspard de Chalons to attend the Academie des Chevaliers' graduating class. The emperor traditionally attends the ceremony to accept the oaths of fealty of the most worthy knights; however, Gaspard asks that the Inquisition attend in his stead to recruit candidates directly to prevent any division of loyalties that might arise later.

Fifteen chevaliers sworn into Inquisition service. Five of them almost climbed over the lectern in their eagerness to join. One of them challenged me to a joust first. After I unhorsed him, the rest fell to one knee almost in unison.

—Knight-Captain Briony[7]

The Arl's Invitation[]

The Inquisition receives an invitation to join a tournament at Calon hosted by Arl Teagan Guerrin. The bannorn of Calon lies empty as Bann Elarra lost her life attending the Conclave and her only living relative holds lands too far away to administer both. Fereldan custom allows for the lands to become property of whomever claims them through skill of arms, allowing for the victor to take the title as their prize. The Inquisition sends Briony as their champion to fight in the Grand Melee.

We did not win a Bannorn, but Briony placed high enough to attract the attention of half the Lords in Ferelden. Also, she received nine offers of marriage and six job offers. We might need to give her a raise.

—Knight-Captain Rylen[8]

The Extremists[]

The Inquisition receives word of fifteen rebel mages gathering high quantities of explosive material, similar to the one used in Kirkwall. Leliana has agent Rector track down the location of the rogue cell, and Cullen assigns Briony to lead an attack on their camp. Briony reports back that ten packages of ordinances were successfully recovered at the site and nine mages died in the confrontation. In addition three were brought in for questioning; however, the remaining three managed to escape into the countryside.[9]
