Bloodbath is a quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It is given as a mandatory main quest if Minrathous was saved, or as an optional companion quest if Treviso was saved.

Acquisition[]

During After the Storm Rook will eventually speak to Lucanis about new leads, triggering this quest.

Walkthrough[]

Lucanis goes looking for vengeance in Treviso.

If this quest is given as a companion quest, there is an initial investigation phase that takes place in the open streets of Treviso. Otherwise, if this quest is given as a main quest, it begins at the Treviso Chantry, skipping the investigation phase.

Search for Zara in Treviso (companion quest only)[]

If Bloodbath is given as a companion quest, the first objective is to meet a Crow agent in the markets. The Crow informs Rook that the Venatori have a hideout nearby, which prompt's Rook's group to investigate. The hideout is located in the upper section of the Grande Markets, and is accessible through a wall crack in the section between the market stalls and the cafe. After entering the hideout and defeating the Venatori there, find a note titled "Official Document" which reveals that Zara's lieutenant, Aquila, has been moving assets to the bank.

Head to the bank in the Streets of Coin Financial district and defeat Aquilla and the Venatori. After defeating Aquila, examining his belongings reveal that he was carrying jewelry from the Chantry, leading Rook's group to head to the chantry. From this point forward, Lucanis is a required (at the party companion point) and the companion quest version of this quest is the same as the main quest version.

Help Lucanis get his revenge on Zara Renata[]

Follow the quest markers across onto the rooftops. There's a chest that can be reached by breaking a couple of boards left of the window the party climbed out of and some loot on top of the pedistal in the middle. Along the quest markers the group finds Illario who has been waiting for them, unbeknownst to Lucanis. He will demand to join his cousin on this job but is denied by Lucanis. Continue along the trail onto the chantry grounds where another chest is located to the right of the chantry doors. In the chantry itself a group of Zara's loyalists await under the command of Porcia who will spawn endless undead until she is killed. After the fight, proceed to the next marked area where a bookcase reveals a secret ladder into the sewers. After dropping, walk straight ahead to get another chest to the right of the dead end, then proceed in the quest direction.

In the courtyard another loyalist, this by the name of Faustus, awaits. Dispatch him and move forward until another courtyard with yet another couple of cronies - Nonus and Decimus. These two are said to be Zara's bodyguards and they are linked together with magic. On the balcony behind them is a chest reached by climbing out a window later. Before that, follow the marker around the corner of the courtyard with the bodyguards but enter the door opposite the quest marker first for some extra loot. Take the marked door next and climb up the ladder in the first room. Climb out the window, over a roof and through another building also containing loot to finally drop out that window over the courtyard and grab the chest there. Then return to the ladder and head on past it.

Lucanis remarks that he can sense blood-magic at the back of his eyes before the group enter a corridor lined with corpses and swarming with flies leading to a pair of big doors. Open them to come face-to-face with Zara Renata in the middle of a literal bloodbath and instigate a fight.

As she gets closer and closer to defeat her previously youthful appearance turns elderly until she is nothing more than a weak old woman in front of Lucanis, trying to bargain for her life. She offers him insight on the Venatori or the identity of the traitor among the Crows as Spite grows more and more restless. Just as she's about to talk Illario suddenly drops down from above and finishes Zara off. As he does so she cries out "Amatu...", her final word.

Lucanis loses control over an enraged Spite who jumps Illario, and a fight for control over Lucanis' body ensues. In a stunning turn of events Illario uses blood magic to supress Spite long enough to get away, calling Lucanis a liability and telling him to stay away from Treviso and the Crows. Back at the Lighthouse Lucanis expresses suspicions about his cousins and his growing frustration with Spite.

Results[]

Zara's crimes demand vengeance. Having tracked her to the chantry in Treviso, Lucanis must cut a path through her minions to reach her.

Lucanis and the team were victorious. Zara is slain. But something's not right in House Dellamorte...

Notable loot[]

The following items can be obtained in areas unlocked or accessible exclusively during this quest. The part of the Streets of Coin Financials district visited after the party confirmation point and the entirety of the Fallen Chantry cannot be revisited after this quest.
