Revision as of 14:44, 26 July 2020
Battlemage is a mage specialization in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening.
Battlemage Spells
Draining Aura |
Sustained Range: Personal Upkeep: 100 Fatigue: 10% Cooldown: 10s Requires: Level 20 |
The battlemage thrives in the heat of combat, creating a field that drains life from nearby enemies to heal the mage for as long as the spell is active. Each time an enemy is drained, the spell consumes a small amount of the battlemage's mana. |
Hand of Winter |
Activated Range: Personal Activation: 80 Cooldown: 45s Requires: Level 22 |
The battlemage releases a burst of intense cold, damaging nearby enemies as well as freezing them unless they pass a physical resistance check, and inflicting a penalty to movement speed otherwise. |
Stoic |
Passive Range: Personal Requires: Level 25 |
The battlemage has learned to harness pain and transform it into power, restoring mana whenever the mage suffers damage. |
Elemental Chaos |
Sustained Range: Personal Upkeep: 140 Fatigue: 10% Cooldown: 10s Requires: Level 28 |
The battlemage creates a field of chaotic, swirling energy that continuously harms nearby enemies with damage from each of the elements in turn for as long as this spell is active. The spell consumes mana rapidly. |
Unlocking
It can be unlocked by buying the Manual: Battlemage from Ambassador Cera for 11 0 0. You can find her in the Vigil's Keep - Throne Room.
Note: If you save before purchasing just reload game and you still have the specialization unlocked (as it works for all specialization manuals).
Guide
Battlemage works incredibly well with Arcane Warrior as a tank. Sustaining Draining Aura or Elemental Chaos gives BM/AWs enough area of effect damage to attract all nearby enemies, while Combat Magic and Shimmering Shield allows BM/AWs to survive, along with Stoic to replenish mana drained by sustaining. You should be aware of the damage taken if you plan on using Rock Armor and Arcane Shield (and Miasma). Mana gained by the Stoic talent is equal to 50% of your damage taken. Thus if you are being hit for only a small amount of damage you can run out of mana quite fast, which makes Death Syphon an extremely good option to replenish it.
Another tactic that works is to combine Battlemage with the Keeper specialization. Using skills such as One With Nature in addition to the battlemage skills such as Hand of Winter or Draining Aura, you can deal enormous AoE damage nearby, while you hide back and cast AoE skills such as Inferno fired to break both ranged and melee enemies.
