Bastion of the Pure is an incredibly rich lyrium node far beneath the Deep Roads, in the Uncharted Abyss. On its floor lies the Buried Sea.
Background
This area is a derelict lyrium mine.[1] Memories speak of an "unknown disaster" that led to its abandonment long before the First Blight. A Titan awoke beneath the mine in the time of King Orseck Garal and the rhythm of its song "bled despair".[2] The earthquake caused by the titan destroyed the mine.[3]
The Buried Sea has a subtle but eerie blue color but has reportedly large waves and it is thus dangerous to stand too close.[4] Swimming is also inadvisable because of significant lyrium concentration on the water.[5]
Involvement
At an unspecified time after the First Blight the Sha-Brytol started inhabiting these caverns but left the lyrium veins unexploited and by 9:41 Dragon the veins are overgrown so much that Varric Tethras jokingly remarks that he would have been the richest dwarf in the Dwarven Merchants' Guild if he exploited the untapped lyrium. However such venture is unrealistic considering the extreme dangers involved.[1] The Inquisitor may visit the location as part of The Descent (quest) along with Shaper Valta in hopes of discovering the source of the earthquakes.
Inside the caverns there is a strange altar with various blood markings around it and it is guarded by an Arcane horror.
