Armor is a category of equipment in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Armor boosts defense and ability damage, and can also provide a range of other bonuses.

Armor types[]

Armor is classified into three types:

Light armor provides the highest boost to ability damage, while heavy armor provides the higher boost to defense. Armor class also affects eligibility to receive certain passive bonuses that require both the armor slot and the headgear slot to be of the same class.

Use restrictions[]

In general, all armor, regardless of whether it is light, medium, or heavy armor, can be equipped by a Rook of any class or background, with the following exceptions:

Armor upgrades[]

Armor can be improved through one of three methods:

  • Rarity increases: Acquiring each additional instance of an existing armor increases rarity by one tier, such as from common to uncommon, or from uncommon to rare. Each rarity increase unlocks an additional effect, and also increases the armor's defense and ability damage.
  • Upgrade level: Armor can also be improved through upgrades at the Caretaker's workshop, which are displayed as a number after the armor's name (e.g., +2 or +3, up to +10). New armor pieces and rarity increases are automatically acquired at the upgrade level equal to the Caretaker's current rank.
  • Enchantments can be applied at the Caretaker's workshop once the main storyline has progressed to a certain point and the Caretaker has reached rank 3.

Unique armor is not eligible for rarity increases or workshop upgrades, but can still be given enchantments.

Transmog[]

Armor appearance can be changed without changing its stats through the use of armor appearances.

Companion armor[]

Main article: Companion armor (The Veilguard)

Each companion has their own set of usable armor. Armor usable by Rook cannot be equipped on companions, and vice versa.

Companion armor function similarly to Rook's armor, with the major difference being that companion armors do not have a defense value, since companions do not take damage in combat, and that weight class (light, medium, or heavy) has no correlation with ability damage.
