The armor in Dragon Age: Inquisition is protective covering used to prevent damage from being inflicted to the wearer. Armor mitigates physical damage; it does not make you harder to hit. Armor does not degrade.
Crafting
Armor can be crafted for the first time in the series. To do this the Inquisitor must find schematics, raw materials, and later on masterwork materials. Schematics and raw materials can be found in the world, in shops, or as rewards from quests and operations. Masterwork materials can be found by mining, in certain shops, or by hunting wildlife.
