- Not to be confused with Arianni.
“Warden, your dog is lecturing me again.”
Ariane is a Dalish elven warrior and one of three companions for the Warden-Commander in the Witch Hunt DLC for Dragon Age: Origins.
Background
Ariane is a gifted Dalish warrior, and her clan's best hunter. When an ancient artifact belonging to the clan's Keeper, Solan, is stolen, one with a history tied to the very roots of the elven people, Ariane is charged with the task of reclaiming it. She is determined to carry out her solemn duty, and when her task turns out to intersect with the Warden-Commander's quest to find Morrigan she realizes that there may be far more to the artifact's disappearance than simple theft.
Involvement
Ariane is first encountered at Flemeth's empty hut in the Korcari Wilds. She reveals she was sent there by her Keeper to locate Asha'bellanar. Ariane was hoping to secure her aid in locating her daughter, Morrigan, who had stolen an ancient text related to the Eluvians which Ariane's clan had guarded since the days of Arlathan. Ariane suggests visiting the Circle of Magi for further information since the text was reclaimed from the Circle by an Elf who later joined the Dalish. While researching the Eluvian, the duo are joined by Finn, a Circle Mage.
Ariane also offers her blood for the spell to locate the Lights of Arlathan since only pure Dalish blood would work. If the Warden-Commander is also Dalish, their blood won't work because it bear The Taint. If a save from Dragon Age: Origins was imported, Ariane will also inquire about the ring Morrigan gifted to The Warden and the precise nature of their relationship.
Although she initially threatens Dog on her first encounter with the Warden, Ariane becomes quite friendly with the mabari and claims she is able to understand Dog's barking.
After arriving at The Nest, Ariane asks the Warden-Commander to ask Morrigan about the book before waiting behind with Finn. If Morrigan is allowed to leave but is not followed she will confirm that the Dalish book has been left at her nearby campfire. Ariane retrieves the text before leaving.
After accomplishing their mission, Ariane continued to travel with Finn. Eventually some mercenaries hired by Finn's father tracked down the duo but were driven off.
Finn later returns to his parents to explain himself and say goodbye, bringing Ariane along for the visit where she samples every item in the house pantry.

Dialogue
Ariane, Dog and Finn
- Ariane: Look, Finn, fetched me a flower!
- Dog: (Excited bark)
- Ariane: Oh, how thoughtful. It's very pretty. Slobbery, but pretty.
- Dog: (Happy bark!)
- Finn: You should just tell him to fetch a Morrigan. It would save us a lot of trouble.
───────
- Finn: Go fetch! Shoo!
- Dog: (Happy bark!)
- Ariane: You have to give him something. You can't just say "Fetch!" and expect him to retrieve random things.
- Finn: Why not? Once heard of someone with really smart mabari, who would run off and fetch thing like... like cake.
- Finn: I think this one's broken.
- Dog: (Whines)
Ariane and Finn
- Finn: Ariane... does your name mean anything in elven?
- Ariane: Blessed Creators! Why does everyone ask that of people from other cultures?
- Finn: Er... I didn't mean--
- Ariane: What about you? Are you named after an honorable fish's appendage?
- Finn: Well, um, "Florian Phineas Horatio Aldebrant, Esquire" was a bit mouthful.
- Finn: And I... was tired of the other apprentices calling me "Flora."
───────
- Ariane: Let me just get this again. Your name is Florian... Phineas..?
- Finn: Horatio Aldebrant. Esquire. Can't forget the "Esquire." Father insisted.
- Ariane: Did your parents hate you?
- Finn: No. They adore me. In fact, I'm sure my name is a result of overwhelming love replacing good sense.
───────
- Ariane: You know that talking to inanimate objects is a sign of insanity?
- Finn: Not when it talks back.
- Ariane: You think this statue talks... to you?
- Finn: It's complicated. It wasn't always a statue. You'll see.
Ariane and Dog
- Ariane: Psst. You, hound. You think you could sneak up on the mage over there?
- Dog: (Soft bark)
- Ariane: How high do you think he'd throw those things if he turned around and saw you looming over him?
- Dog: (Disapproving whine)
- Ariane: Oh, lighten up. This place is like a tomb. A few surprises would be good for them.
- Dog: (Unhappy bark)
- Ariane: Warden! Your dog is lecturing me again...
Trivia
- Ariane has a great fondness for 'shemlen' pickles.
