An Update is an Act 2 companion quest for Varric in Dragon Age II.

Acquisition

It is automatically unlocked after you complete one of the first main plot quests, either Blackpowder Courtesy or Prime Suspect, in Act 2.

Walkthrough

Go to The Hanged Man and talk with Varric. Doing so will unlock his companion quest for Family Matter.

Result

Selecting "You can tell me anything" option and agree to help find Bartrand will give you Varric: friendship (+20), not helping to find Bartrand does nothing to your status.

Selecting "Let's go get some drinks" option and then agree to help find Bartrand will give you Varric: friendship (+25), not helping to find Bartrand nets you only Varric: friendship (+5).

Selecting "Get to the point" option and then agree to help find Bartrand does nothing to your status, not helping to find Bartrand will give you Varric: rivalry (+20).
