After completing the quest Haunted and Closure.
Walkthrough
Head back to the Hanged Man to speak with Varric. He remarks that it has been six years since he met Hawke, and tells them it has been an honour knowing them.
Result
The conversation ends, with no friendship/rivalry changes.
