If you choose to take on the Aidan's quest "Law and Order" you go around the city killing hired goons until you get the key to the smuggler's hideout and kill the smuggler leader, report back to Constable Aidan who gives thanks and, as a reward gives, you 10 gold.
However, if you take on the quest "Smuggler's run" and go against Aidan the only change is that Aidan and the city guards become some what hostile towards you and "have nothing to say to you"
