Varric, in Dragon Age II, was my all time favourite character and, while I love him in Inquisition, he just felt so much better in DA2 and that might be because so much of DAII is potentially fabricated by Varric - maybe he talked himself up so much that we all love him
I agree with everything Warden Nuggins said about Varric not really having a purpose or place in Inquisition. However, I do think his witty remarks are enough to keep him interesting, if not relevant.
So kick out all of your companion if that's your logic on who has place on the inquisition.
^You can't kick out all of them. Cassandra, Varric, and Solas always stay.
Anyway, I like Varric and I'm glad he's there. I just recognize that he adds nothing to the plot.
Why is there a K?
It's even mentioned that Leliana does everything Varric does only better in DAI. That said, he's still pretty much the same Varric.
If he wasn't made Viscount of Kirkwall, he would pretty much be where he started. I'm starting to wonder if that will limit his options as a character, or if that's one way for him to Exit Stage Left while getting in a few offscreen activities.
DA2 Only because I love Varric’s banter with Merrill, calling her Daisy and listening to all the stuff he does to ensure her safety in Kirkwall. I believe at some point he even admitted that he’s sacrificing his own funds to make sure the girl is safe when she’s hopelessly wondering around the city at night. It’s so sweet and endearing to picture Varric stumbling upon the girl and walking her back home.
In some ways, I feel Varric kinda drew the short straw for returning companion. I like him, but story wise doesn't make too much sense other than he happened to get stuck in a bad situation and he has enough morality that he can't leave without feeling guilty.
No, Solas will leave after defeating Corypheus, I've heard that alot of players starting DLCs after defeating Corypheus, So no Solas with you.
And Cassandra also should leave to be divine, Which means you only got Varric, He's a character will stick with you no matter what you do, This kind of characters are the best.
Varric in DA2 was sharper and just generally snarkier than Varric in DAI. He seemed to be really on his game (well, it *was* his story) in DA2, but in DAI he came across as ... reserved? Inoffensive? That said, I did enjoy his Game Night.
When we initially meet Varric, he's Cassandra's "guest". He resents being there but knows that a hole in the sky is 'next-level' crap and he has experience dealing with demons. When Cory is revealed, he stays out of a sense of responsibility. He makes it clear in conversation that he hates Corypheus and the exposure of red lyrium. When he introduces Hawke, he stays to keep a watch over his friend and act as liaison. After Adamant, he clearly wants to see the conclusion because overall, he's a storyteller and he's in the middle of one of the biggest events of the Age. Dorian may look like Tony Stark, but it's Varric who seems to mature through the monikers of storyteller, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.
